If&Then Thursdays; Au-pair Thrillers 👩🏽

If&Then Thursdays; Au-pair Thrillers 👩🏽

Good morning!

I see thoses types of recs all the time, although it’s quite hard for me to pair things together as similar — But it did streaked me after reading the Second book how similar thoses two Au-pairs Thrillers were!

If&Then Thursdays is a book meme created by Alex@ Young at Heart Books. How do you participate? It’s easy! All you have to do is choose two books that are somewhat related in theme, writing style, genre, etc. Tell us how they are similar and why we would like them! All recommendations should be made in this format:
“If you like Book A, then you might enjoy Book B”

If you liked The turn of the Key, then you might enjoy I killed Zoe Spanos

The main plot in theses two thrillers rest on the au-pair being arrested for the murder, for one of the kids she’s babysitting for The turn of the key & a dissapeared teenager in  I killed Zoe SpanosBoth are seemingly innocent, but are they? and if they are.. who did murder them?

Both girls are working for rather wealthy families; Though only one of them has a smart house, the other have a separate cottage for the live-in nanny. One of the twist is also the exact same in both books, adding an extra layer to this whole thing.

However this can be taken in one way or another, I personally prefered I killed Zoe Spanos a bit more.. as on the opposite of The turn of the Key, it seemed to be less about the babysitting in itself and more about the mystery. From the start, we do know that Zoe Spanos has been missing for a few months and that she looks like her, so we get into the “detective” part of the novel way sooner. Though some said it felt un-developped and too short for some, it did work well for me.

As The turn of the Key had the murder within the house, among one of the 3 kids she was watching, we had much more of day-to-day story to it inside the house.. which I found to be redundant after a while, as things really were going south at nightfall only.

Have you read either of those, did you enjoyed them?
