Our experience with Covid-19
Good morning,
Since the very beginning of the pandemic, I had been one of those who’d been super cautious; almost never leaving the house, got all the shots, got a bit paranoid on the sides and LOTS of sleepless nights being anxious of how I could protect my mother. She is, in fact, immunodeficient as she got medication to “kill” her own immune system to not reject her kidney transplant.
Though the most scary thing with disease like this one, is that it doesn’t only depend on you.. but also on the other people around you. Our country got the bright idea to remove all obligation to wear a mask aswell as isolate when you contract it- which allow people who are sick to be wandering about without even doing the minimum as wearing their mask. Which is how it got into the house, and our worst fear of having covid happened- all three of us got sick, including my poor mother.
My dad is currently travelling alot for his work, and has asthma. One of his usual things in the spring time, when temperature start to change, are flu-like symptoms (somehow being worst when he do get the flu shots?) — we had noticed that he had been caughing particularly alot lately, so before he was leaving for a week to work, mother insisted that he do a Covid test.. which he absolutely declined because he was 100% sure it was related to his usual spring things. It was not, and it came back positive for Covid.
Mother had started freaking out, and we got tested for it aswell- she was positive for it too, while I was surprisingly still negative. As we were on a Sunday, she had to wait for the next day to call the hospital to inform them she had gotten covid, so they could do a PCR test on her, and gave her a powder puffer to help her breathe. At first, the nurse said that when they’d get the positive PCR result, they would give her some Covid medicine via IV because it was really dangerous for her… and then the next one just said they didn’t do it anymore? 🤨
We had gotten two different outbreaks at work; 3 people got it at my former job, and 3 got it when I got my current one aswell … and shockingly enough, I stayed the only negative one for another 2days before I joined my parents into having it. And we all had different symptoms..
Dad’s symptoms;
He had been the only one caughing in the house, but like- really bad. He was snuffling alot, spitting.. it was all over coming out.
Mother’s symptoms;
For some reason, she had been the only one that nothing was coming out at all.. which definately made a difference onto how long it’s been taking. She had a slight pain on one side of her belly, was really tired on some days, aswell as a bit of a trouble breathing.
My symptoms;
I got the covid lottery and mine was probably the mildest- it was basically a cold for me. Sure, I was sick and it’s never fun.. but all things considering, I wasn’t feeling that bad as I would’ve thought. As with my allergies, I was sniffling alot with too much mucus, had sinus headaches, and my throat was itching badly. I had completely lost my voice, and my most wierdly symptoms had been stomach spasming? it happened for a few days, which I honestly never heard of that one, and later I got muscle pains in my legs.
Thanksfully, both mine & father’s work are super strict, and although you technically don’t need to- they made us stay home for a week. I started having my throat hurt while still being negative the day before, and because I knew one of my coworker started like that before joining her boyfriend into having it too, I decided to take the day off preventively in case.. and it ended up being the right move because I woke up at 5am the next day, just knowing that I should do my test right then as to give as much notice as possible to the girl who offered to take my shift; and yeah it was positive.
I took a bit more time than dad to recover, as I did only test positive two days after them, but the following tuesday I was back to being negative. Dad also had a flagrant recovery as he clearly stopped caughing.. but mother is still a bit sick, and was testing positive when I tested negative. She called the hospital again, but sadly the puffer that they gave her is all that they can give for that.. and because of her condition it’s normal that it takes a bit more time.
Did you got Covid too, or not yet?
What symptoms did you guys had?
Almost my whole workplace got covid at the same time back in February, only one guy managed to dodge it completely. 😅 I only had a fever for like 2-3 days but felt too weak to go to work for nearly two weeks (thankfully I could do any work stuff remotely that needed to be taken care of). The absolute fatigue was the worst and I still get out of breath easier than I used to but it’s slowly getting better. Aks somehow didn’t catch it despite not being careful around me at all and we had gotten the 3rd vaccine only a week before I caught the virus so he wasn’t even fully protected at the time! Lucky lol
Oh wow! Odd how some people are tougher to get it than others.. 😅 Somehow we didn’t even got any fever, though I never was someone who did fevers easily.
Hoping you have a full recovery soon ❤️
I didn’t catch it so far even if both my kids had it and a friend I had seen without mask. But we had our three shots and all the symptoms had been mild.
Wow, hoping your luck continue! Same thing happened when I got H1N1 🤣 mother took care of me (I was a teenager back then) and she never got it 🤷🏽♀️
Yes it does make a difference!! We have all 3 + the flu shot
I’m so sorry your family is going through this. My hubby is high risk for complications from COVID so we don’t leave the house without a mask even if we get weird looks from some others by doing so. I hope you all recover very soon.
Mother finally tested negative; so we’re all pretty healed up now! Thanksfully none of us needed a hospital trip, but mother did had some hard time breathing.. though they didnt wanted to give her more puffers than the one they did gave her 😐
Fingers crossed you guys won’t get it!
Hey Kris, I am so sorry you had to go through that! I hope your mom gets better ASAP. I caught covid last year, and it took me full 30 days before I tested negative. This disease is something else for sure; I still remember how weak I was during that whole month and even afterwards.
I don’t know about all the other places in the world, but things seemed to be improving in general compared to the past couple of years. I truly cannot wait till the day comes when globally there are 0 cases of covid again.
Oh my god yes that’s be wonderful – the problem is that they remove safety obligatory because « people should know by now how to act without us telling them »… and in the end, no because they don’t follow it 😬 they get sick, dont stay home and not even mask themselves?! Definately more of a self-first rather than community-first mindset, which sadden me tbh 😐 it’s not that hard.
Thank you ❤️ She finally tested negative!! Thanksfully getting better, slowly but surely.. she’s still tired & a pain in her side but we got through it. Im glad it wasn’t as bad as I had been panicking about- one of her friend who got a kidney and covid died.. so definately glad she didn’t got too much complications!
Oh no! I’m sorry you all got it!
I had avoided it all through the pandemic too, until I tested positive yesterday. I just have cold symptoms, so I haven’t felt too bad, thankfully, I’m just really hoping my fiance doesn’t get it too.
The main problem I had was that tests have become more difficult to get here, as you can no longer order them online unless you work in certain jobs, so even though I had symptoms a few days ago, I wasn’t actually able to test until yesterday. It just seems like more stupidity from the government taking away all regulations, because how are you supposed to stop the spread if you can’t test, and hardly anyone is wearing masks anymore?
Ah shoot, im sorry you got it too!! Atleast you got it very mild like I did- the vaccines does work for that atleast 😅
Yep. Same with us too.. now it’s a whole process of contacting them w/ symptoms so they can give you some and whatever 🤦🏽♀️ though we do have a box at work- we were lucky that mother stocked up on one couple months ago where they were just giving them away easily.. definately doesn’t make sense.
