In a dark dark wood, by ruth ware ☆ review

Heello peeps !

Finally another review.. It had been quite a while since the last one .. I will be experimenting with different formats until I find which one I like better, so feel free to let me know what you think of it and/or if you have suggestions on what I could add!

Note; I read the french translated version, “promenez-vous dans les bois.. alors que vous etes encore en vie”, published by Fleuve Noir in 2016. I also wrote this review as I went into the book, so I could have some sort of genuine notes of my thoughts at the point that I read. That being said, please forgive me if my thoughts may be going everywhere!

Synopsis;

in the middle of the wood stand a house build in glass; in that house is where the events of a bachelorette’s party weekend is gonna take place.

Nora has no idea why Clare wanted her to be there, as they haven’t talked in years !! even wierder, she hasn’t been invited to the said wedding .. Yet, she decide to go anyway with another of their mutual friend. Only 48hours after the beggining of the events, Nora wakes up wounded in an hospital. Someone died; What happened, and where did it went wrong ?

My review;

 4 / 5 stars – I really loved it, but not sure if i’d re-read it, however!

✘ I quite like the settings of this novel; it feels welcoming to me, a foresty area, a big house made of glass, end of november and snow on the ground/snowing ..

✘ At first I was mistaken on how things were being told; I thought the events were being told as they go, rather than being told later by memory. Or rather, trying to remember.

✘ I got shocked a few times .. oh how the table turned in an unpredictable way.. made my mind go “!!???!!!” ; Almost not believing it would had been possible from that character ..

✘ Also the urge to read more and more, my heart was racing as of what the heck were gonna happen … of course we know someone is gonna die, somewhere.. but HOW?! I NEED to know !!!

✘ I know that this has not been the same for everybody else; but I actually really related to Leonora. I was able to see myself talking/acting like her in my mind, while my imagination showed me images created by Ruth’s words.. I, too, had lost a love in my younger years and still couldn’t get over it until recently. Like her, I was 16 then and I just turned 23; however, of course, here ends the similarities but you know- I understand.

✘ Although I am aware that I have now the imagination of a pan, things just kept.. not going the way I thought it would !! It all went in many different directions, after some of her memories I went ohh okay, so this (…) is supposed to be happening?! And then boom, actuually nope! Here’s a plot twist!

Overall this book turned out actually not being what I imagined at all from the synopsis ! However, I loved it nonetheless and I was able to see everything in my head (which let’s be honest it had been a while since a book did that on me) and I enjoyed reading it among the many plot twists !

I also found myself thinking alot about this book when I couldn’t or didn’t felt like reading it (at work, middle of the night, etc.)

I just finished reading it at 1;52am, which left me so numb & I totally didn’t expected that ending watsoever; Ruth did a really good job there !! Now passing it along to my mother, who saw me reading it and want to read it aswell as it looked good by the faces I was making .. 😂

Have you read it, If so did you liked it?

If not, Do you wanna read it ?
