Book community; WP vs Tumblr

Book community; WP vs Tumblr

Heey !

So, as you know – I was over on tumblr before joining here. What’s the difference between the two book community ? Maybe you were thinking about joining the tumblr side of it, but were not quite sure ? I’ll try to answer this by listing what I particularly like from both sides 🙂

Yes, I love both of our book community and will stay in both of them. ❤

Tumblr side

º Bookish pictures are easily shared.

º There’s no schedule needed, you can share as many things and “speak” with fellow bookworms as much as you want ! You get a random question you wanna ask? you can do so right away !

º Challenges & readathons ! Of course, I have my favorite people over there aswell, and you can see many bookish picture challenges, questions of the day/weeks, 24hours readathons .. members on that side is quite heavily involved with each other.

º As reblogs are a thing, it’s a bit easier as you don’t really need to think ahead of “okay, what do I want/need to post today” – you can just jump right in and give some love to someone else bookish pictures/reply to questions.. etc.

º let’s face it .. it’s also less time consuming xD writing posts here can take me a few hours to write and prep and everything.

º easier for people to follow/sub to. As for wordpress, you need an account or by email – if you don’t wanna have either, you are basically stuck. As of tumblr, many have an account there already.

WordPress side

º If you particularly love writting, you can write a post as long as you want! Unlike tumblr, here everything is your very own and nobody will say your post is too lenghty .. 😜

º Discord chats ! Tied with our other social medias (twitter, IG, fb…), I have four “groups” of fellow book lovers or fellow bloggers; everybody encouraging others with their posts and questions !

º Planning is easier. when you know which day you wanna post – you can just plan a bunch ahead of time ! (granted you have the ideas, ahah)

º Comment junction @ elgee writes! people here are also involved ; just in a different way.

º Different kinds of challenges ! This time more writting & sharing/explaining. We have memes (ie: Int. bloggers), top 5s, WWW & sundays recap posts (ithink?)

º This website is yours ! you can custom it as much as you want (although limited on the free one..) add pluggins, themes .. many other stuff you just can’t with a tumblr page.

perks when together !

º Diversity ! different people are on different sites, and thus the interactions/challenges will differ.

º As tumblr is easier for people to find you, sharing your WP posts over there automatically will allow different people that maybe wouldn’t have visited otherwise.

º Also; if people who don’t wanna create a WP account nor having it by emails – with your WP posts being over there too they can easily follow your posts aswell and keep being updated. With the plus that tumblr as an ask/IM system, it can also be a way for them to interract with you in more ways than only follows & comments.

Yes, I am aware there are other books communities aswell (IG, Blogger, wix..) But frankly, as I am not in thoses, I cannot give you my opinion and what I find is « pros » with them.

Additionnally, if there’s a « pro », there shall have a « con » aswell to balance .. It’s up to you if you find them worth it or not, and that’s totally fine if it differs from others’ ! 😊

Are you a part of thoses community ? which ones ?

What’s something you really like about thoses ?

  1. Well… With WordPress it’s very limited unless you have self hosted – I personally use blogger and have for the past five years, but I’ve been thinking of making the big move in the next few months. WordPress is really nice and flexible, but it does come with a cost that some aren’t able to afford, so a lot of people tend to start at blogger. Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of people move though. 🤷

    1. Yeah, that’s true – however even the free wordpress is more « editable » than tumblr could ever be. Cannot talk for blogger as I haven’t got into that one 😅 I am perfectly fine with the free wordpress, even limited, and don’t really need more to be happy. However, I hear the .org one has more to it and it’s free! So if you wanna move i’d suggest you go straight to that one if being limited bother you. ☺️

      1. I actually plan on moving to .org 😂 I’ll just install jetpack so I can use the WordPress app freely. WordPress is definitely nice though, especially with the phone app. 😝 (This might be the seller haha. I have unlimited phone data but not hotspot data.)

  2. This is so helpful! Now I’m considering joining tumblr 🤔 I have an account but never use it 😝

As for the other ones, I’ve never tried Blogger, but I’m a “Wix Expert” 😝 Only use it for work, not blogging, but it does give you a lot more design freedom. The downside there would probably be the platform doesn’t help other bloggers find you, and you’d need a newsletter for people to follow you, as it’s not so centered in blogging as wordpress is. I love it for everything else though!

    1. Ah! I have 4 tumblr accounts ahahah 🙈 ooops.

As for wix, interresting .. first time I heard of it was my friend’s animal crossing account – which I found was kinda meh, idk.. and then a few was on wix aswell in some of my bookish discord 😅

  3. I really really tried to get into Tumblr. I even started and actually made an account. But I actually couldn’t figure it out! It’s pretty much the only social media I joined and really got too confused to ever get into it.

    1. mhh, it does need some figure it out but once you know – it’s not that hard ! I love this platform xD although I tend to be more on twitter now that I have all of you there heheh ..

  4. Actually, I feel like SUCH an old lady, when it comes to Tumblr 😀 I’ve never had it, and I feel like I’ve missed the train anyway 😀 so I don’t even really know how it works? I suppose it’s kind of like a cross between Twitter and a blog, a bit of both?

And I haven’t been able to comment on the Comment Junction for a while! Just so busy ;_; but hey, at least I comment back, right 🙂 half the job…

Oh, also, wanted to congratulate you – you are so close to 150 followers!! Go you!!!
    And good post 🙂

    1. Thats pretty much it, yesh! But you can post a more variety of stuff : text & images of course! But also links, audio, videos, quotes and « conversation » formats aswell! Once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy 😅

Yeah! Thats something! I always go and check if I can return the comment but eeeh sometimes nothing really interrest me, you know 🙈 so I feel bad but then I dont wanna give a random comment just to give one either :/

      Aww thankyou so much ❤️❤️

  5. I write African American erotic stories and I find Tumblr to be perfect for it. The setting up of my blog was simple and easy. Plus I totally love the theme that I picked out and customized. The only downside is that I don’t get much traffic. Tumblr is more about posting pictures and getting likes than it is about reading stories. WordPress is kind of complicated to set up and the whole plug in thing is just another way for WordPress to make money. I said no thank you a free theme would be enough. Also getting traffic and getting people to actually read my stories is a real pain also. I find the hardest part of putting together a blog is the promotion of it. And finally the WordPress mobile app is horrible. Writing and editing on it is virtually impossible to do. Tumblr’s mobile app on the other hand is a breeze to use. And this is why I prefer Tumblr to WordPress for writing erotic stories. Plus I think the suits at WordPress have censored my past attempts to write such stories. Which is another reason why I prefer Tumblr. I have more freedom to write like I want. And last but certainly not least I don’t see a niche for African American erotic stories on either WordPress or Tumblr. But with that being said I’ll take my chances with Tumblr over WordPress any day of the week. Peace.

    1. Yes, I can see how tumblr would be less limited in that way ; Now I know that if you would post about books in general, people make quite lots of posts looking for such others to follow and interact with, but on your case, im not sure … maybe look for writeblr? Thoses quite of posts attract people to your blog. Which I agree, is easier for pictures and not huge bloc of texts (although ive seen it, im sure people are in for that)

      Thank you for the comment!
