My struggles as a Mood reader
Helloo !
I finally am writing this post, after having it on the back of my brain for a month probaby.. 😂 Following « my struggles as a new book blogger » and « my struggle as an international blogger », here’s my conversation post of our struggles as a mood reader.
First of all, What is a mood reader? you may think.
Let me answer that for you my dear, very simple. You see, mood readers are followers of the heart; in a way that we read what our heart & soul is wanting to read at that very moment, not what’s more important or what need to be reviewed soon. Thus, if one fail to follow what’s dictated to us, our reading will be less quick & entertaining at this moment.
As you probably would think, we like to live dangerously, as it can lead us to some problems.. 😂 And I am here to voice what kind of problems we can face.
1) reading slumps are more frequent;
Some of us have very specific moods for what kind of books we wanna read, even if some times we don’t even know what we are in mood for ! As a result, nothing seems to appeal to us enough for wanting to read it. We end up in putting too many books on hold and result in an infame reading slump ! Either until we found what we were in the mood for, or until the said mood switch to something else.
2) reading too many books at once .. ;
Say you are reading something that have a due date, may it be a library book or one you gotta review before X, When suddently you get this want to read something else. What do you do ? You start another one .. before finishing the previous one and panic as you have now 3 books going in the same time and you only have so many time left .. 😖
(yep.. that may or may not be me right now ..)
3) Unfinished reads ..
Even if we do feel bad (or not!) about DNFing a book, when your mood change drastically in the middle of a book… it seems like you don’t have any choice other than just put it back on your shelf and take a new one; for thoses of us who can’t juggle more than one book at the time.
4) Unable to stick to “Montly tbr” ;
We see many bloggers on here who do thoses fancy monthly to be reads that they wanna get through in the next or current month. While this is very neat and handy.. This is just not really possible for us! As we have no idea in what mood we are gonna be next, nor how specific it will be, it’s definately a big time more harder. And let face it, also a bit bad on our ego ..
5) What to read next ??
Hands in hands with our previous one, we don’t have a tbr to stick with; so how do we decide what to pick next ?? Shall we go for something we know is due soon, or shall we pick something we think we are in the mood for ? What about something we have or something new ? The struggle is real .. also the process might be longer, as we need to figure out what we want…
Sometimes even browsing in a book store thinking “Okay, Im in the mood for a thriller..” you can check 100 of books that fit that, when really… not what you are looking for. Which is exactly what happened to me last time ! 😔
What about you, are you a mood reader ?
Is there any other struggles that I forgot ?
Hello fellow mood reader! Finally someone who understands. People always say they could never read more than one book but I do. And I do get into slumps. I buy books on a whim and never read them and start reading books on Netgalley when I have a lot to read. I wish there was a cure 😂 so glad I’m not alone
yeps xD I bought TWO. MOrES. recently when I have 20+ unreads already .. *cough*
I used to read more than one at school.. one for me, one or two for obligation readings at classes. Then I just .. stopped doing so when mental problems happend. looks like I am now able to again ! (not sure i’ll remember the past of what I read when I move books though xD but oh well. im still only 20% or less in them, soo..)
The slumps I get don’t come by as often anymore unless some really good game is out and it takes all my attention away from reading. They usually happen though when I read a not so great book and the only way to get myself out of that is to read an awesome one.
But I know the feeling about reading so many books at once. I have so many started that it’s out of hand and so many could have been finished a while ago. So I make it a thing to actually finish those now. That TBR list though haha. Yeah, that’s not going anywhere anytime soon. 😀
ahahah yep .. same .. im trying !!
same .. but sometimes it’s so hard to find that ONE awesome book !! im going uphill, thanksfully, but this time last month I just .. wasn’t feeling like reading at all, stuck on stardew valley ahah
ooooooo yea that’s a killer. Mine was Skyrim haha
I heard of that one alot .. but I never played personnally
Too many spam posts lately 😣 wordpress need to do something
uuurh definately. allow us to block them or something !!
The struggle is real, i know!
I don’t even kid myself with a monthly tbr anymore 😀
ahahah yep, I never did xD I know it’s gonna flunk, and so I will be upset … and that’s no good..
I am 100 a total mood reader. I never stick to a list and often swap things around. I often read a lot in a single week and then read nothing at all the next. Last month I read my 8 books in about 10 days and didn’t read a word the other days.
Oh . well that is one heck of a struggles .. I read too slow to finish more than one a month haha..
My reading is very much all over the place. lol
Great post Kristina! I am 100% mood reader 😀 I can’t agree more on all the above points. Though I must admit I avoid to read multiple books at a single time because I am afraid of leaving them in middle. But last month I did exactly that 😀 And the reason I have too many pending NetGalley ARCs and review copies.. is this.. being a mood reader 😀
Thank you!!💕
Hahha yep, sure is!! 😘 im glad I reached five bullet points, but a bummer I havent thought of anything else .. 😪 atleast it was longer than I expected
Haha don’t worry it was great!
I relate to this post so much! All of it! I’ve always been a mood reader, and I’m trying to learn to embrace it more, where before I tried to fight it.
Yeah, as though as it is, fighting it isnt quite a good idea 😳 actually making things alot worse 🤦🏽♀️
Its okay to have our own way of reading and we shall respect that indeed 🙂
The biggest problem I have with being a mood reader is that if I do start a book I’m not in the mood for it will have ruined the book. I won’t be able to go back and start it again at another point. Which means there are books I really want to read but am to scared to start because what if I’m not in the mood and i ruin them!!!
Ooooh gotcha :/
In thoses cases I can just go eh and put it down to try and put it back later, it doesnt really affect it in any way. That sucks so bad.. im sorry xx
haha love this “live dangerously” list! we bookworm do indeed have BIG troubles 😉
I do go through very frequent slumps, which makes me a profession DNFer and definitely professional not follower of the TBR plan I made 🙂
Hahaha had to make it interresting somehow 😂😂
Yeps … metoo, although I still feel bad dnfing 🙊 but.. is a slump reaally worth it ? Not quite ..
I’m a mood reader too. I don’t have a set schedule for my TBR and I keep adding to it but it depends on my mood which one I’ll read or if I’ll even read it. Sometimes I read like a maniac and finish almost everything in one go and feel like I’m lost when I’ve “run out” of books that would pique my interest.
Yep! I might have 20 of books but not THE ONE I wanna read ! 🙈
This post is so relatable!
The worst is when your monthly TBR that you suddenly have no mood for includes a lot of ARCs that quickly become overdue. Also, library overdue fees kill me. Also when a highly anticipated book is finally available on hold but you just aren’t interested?
*le sigh*
Thanksfully I only has 2 more requested; one im in rn and other one was an open read thing. AND our library has a thing you can extend your loan directly onto the website .. so that’s handy !
but yes.. wether I feel like reading them or not is the issue ..
Oh I LOVE this post! I always thought of myself as a sort of mood-reader, because I never make TBRs and often read whatever I want, whenever I want. That being said, I never, ever read more than one book at a time, so maybe I’m a strange mood reader haha 🙂 x
Hahah I used to not to for a while 😅 technicly year I have them both « on read » but I dont dive in more than one ahahah I still read the same one until im done 🙈
This is such a great post and I completely agree! I am a mood reader and the one with reading so many books at the same time – ah, it feels so true. I think I have more than 10 books started at the same time, although I am currently focusing on only three books… unless I start the new graphic novel I got. HELP!
PS: I gave up on monthly TBRs long time ago. They just don’t work for me – unless I make a 30 books TBR.
yikes, 10 !!
yep. I get you, I had three but kept my focus on one. now it’s done, I’m taking the next one on deadline and read from where I left. when only one will be remaining, I shall proceed onto finishing it.
Good luck with that! Hoping to do the same… maybe. :))
YES. I’m definitely a mood reader! People don’t understand why I have 4-6 books on the go all the time, but it allows me to read whatever I’m in the MOOD for that day.
🙂
I love this post!
Now the struggle is to keep track of what happen in all of them .. ahaha I had 3 and after finishing one and resuming to the other im like eeeeh….. what happened again. no idea. ..
I am not really a mood reader. I consume books like oxygen it seems. I always have one in my bag.
Oh wow, now I would like to be that way again .. I suddently became a slow reader .. meh
It just may be a season you are in. I’m sure you will get back at it again.
Noo,, sadly it isn’t. I got better but it downgraded when my anxiety and depression leveled up .. I lost some concentration & imagination :/
I have faith some of it will come back 🙂
I hope so .. ❤ I successfully read two books in english when it’s my 2nd language! so that’s a start 🙂
That amazing. Great job! 👏🏼
