Popular Books That I Couldn’t Get Into..
Good morning!
Yep, i’m actually going to be a little extra here and throw in a FORTH #BookendingSummer prompt — This one being the prompt for July 20th, by Rachel @ The Must Reads (her post here).
→ Popular Books That I Couldn’t Get Into
What are some books that got all the hype but that you just couldn’t get into? No judgement here! Just honest conversation of the books that didn’t work out for us, no matter how much we wanted them to.
I was not really planning to go beyond 3posts to be honest, but i’m still kind of on the “vacation loop” over here 😂 but BOY, do I have lots to say about this one – so buckle up, and be ready to shame on me.. haha!
✽ The Harry Potter serie (along with the Fantastic Beasts serie)
Alright… starting this post with a bang – I’m so sorry guys, while I am old enough to have grown up with them (I’m turning 25, urh..) there’s just WAY too many books for me. Younger me tried to read the first book, as I owned them all but one for some reason, and I just.. nope. I did watched up to the 5th movie, I believe, but even then I slipped off the tracks 🙄
I do wanna add that i’m a hufflepuff, according to this world, and i’m absolutely a part of that house now.. even if i’m not in the fandom – go figure 😂
✽ The Night Circus
This one is a bit “less” popular, but I definately saw a lot of blogger having this book as a favorite. And while I bought it on my own even before joining the blogging world, as it did looks quite nice, there was just so many POV going in all different ways that I ended up absolutely lost; and I was indeed reading it in my native language, so it should’ve been easier. To this day i’m still quite wary of fantasy because of this guy here..
✽ Six of Crows
While I do know this serie has an amazing crew of characters … the synopsis just don’t interest me at all 🤷🏽♀️ I picked it up at the bookstore a few times, flipped through it but.. It’s really just not my taste. No matter how i’d wanna learn about thoses awesome characters I keep seeing other bloggers rave about, it’s a nope; specially that it’s a serie of three books.. it’s kind of a lot to give in for me xD
✽ Anything by Sarah J. Maas
Again.. it’s just not stories i’m personally drawn to – and quite a lot of thoses i’m not interest to are fantasies, as of which The Night Circus made me scared of my capacity to understand them; So that weight into the balance.
Please note that I probably could’ve went so much further than this list xD but i’m gonna stop there for now – ahah mostly because it was all I could think of at the moment 😝
→ Special mentions to Hunger Games, Games of Thrones, Pretty Little Liars, Outlander, Lord of the rings/The Hobbits.
What is some of your “dislikes/Don’t care” hyped books? Do we share some?
Thanks for doing my prompt, even though it does hurt my heart that you don’t like Harry Potter….
I never got into ACOTAR by Sarah J Maas either, though, and I love fantasy.
yeeah, sorry ! 😅
Hasn’t she got into some problematic stuff ? Ithink I recall some bloggers not wanting to read anything by her (or maybe I’m thinking of someone else.. )
I think that might be Cassandra Clare? Idk
Ohhhh erm, idk now. 😂 possibly
You like what you like, and if you don’t like HP that’s okay! 😀 I’ve not read anything by Maas, I want to, but it’s just a matter of getting around to it, also she seems to write a lot of series and I’m not sure my shelves can handle that lol
Hp was a big love for my godmother and uncle though! Aswell as lord of the rings.. so idk how I falled behind 😂😂🤷🏽♀️
That’s true, eh! Atleast what, three series of six/seven books? (Actually i probably has the wrong numbers… but ithink I recall there being LOTS) Now im not a fan of series for starters … and that’s just too long for me xd
Aside from Harry Potter (you monster) I haven’t read any of these! I would add The Bear And The Nightangle, 7 1/2 Deaths Of Evelyn Hardcastle, and Thew Throne Of Glass series.
I somehow never bothered for 7 1/2 deaths.. although seeing it everywhere and mixing it with another book 😂 (the 7 husbands of E__)
As any other Maas’ book, Throne of glass isn’t in my radar either 🤷🏽♀️
Isn’t Six of Crows 2 books, with the new book being a spin-off? Or are you thinking of the Grisha trilogy?
I think I picked up The Night Circus a few years back but couldn’t go past like the third chapter. Probably won’t pick it up again.
I mean, i started Throne of Glass but I have no idea if I’ll go back to that series or the other one 🤷♀️
I have absolutely no idea 😂 it might be, I haven’t looked into the details too much.
I’ve heard that nothing really happen in the night circus anyway… so we don’t miss too much « action » or anything xd
Same!! I could never get along with Maas’ writing..
I never tried reading any of her work, but just the premise itself it mreh to me 🤷🏽♀️
How could you not love Harry Potter!
I couldn’t get into SJM books too lol. I know that her ACOTAR? series is popular but idk the books scream generic.
I have absolutely no idea 😂😂 bottom line it’s just way too long for my liking..
Yeah- it even got translated in french ! But just… looks plain to me, not something I wanna read as of now. 🤷🏽♀️
I understand SOC duology and I’m planning to read the Night Circus soon. People recommended me to listen to the audiobook instead of reading the ebook, so maybe you might try it too?
Yes, I had in mind to try the audiobook, eventually! Hopefully it’d end up being better for me..
Ahhhhh you haven’t read Harry Potter??? It’s okay though; there are plenty of others who haven’t and I don’t think I’ll be reading the Fantastic Beasts series despite planning on watching the movies. Six of Crows is amazing and I loved it, but I do get that some won’t enjoy it, and that’s okay as well!
Sarah J. Maas isn’t an author that I’m interested in either considering how her books have been up and down the problematic pole, but I’m also not the type to read books that are SUPER slow. I’ve heard Throne of Glass focuses a lot on worldbuilding and while I love worldbuilding, I get bored from them relatively quickly.
true- thoses people seems to be quite rare in our community though xd I tried to watch the fantastic beasts movie and erhh.. idk – we ended up not finishing it ahah
Hah! I knew she had to do with problematic stuff.. aah I see- as I get lost quite easily I do enjoy a book being slow, but too much on the worldbuilding where you take 3 paragraphs to describe a tree has me more lost than anything xd so a nope from me.
I couldn’t get into Six of Crows. I read the first chapter and it was so boring and poorly written. Sometimes I wonder if its all rationalization about the characters. It was so bad… I do want to read about the Darkling everyone loves… but that series was just as boring and hard to get into. I don’t think I’m a fan of the author. Brave post! ❤️❤️❤️
Oh, it’s not a first time hearing this… though I couldn’t identify if something is written badly or not 😂
The struggle, eh.
Yeah I never got into Harry Potter either. I was a little too young to have grown up with it, and I was one of those kids who wasn’t allowed to read/watch it. But I didn’t really care anyway cuz I was more into Disney. Now that I’m an adult I’m kind of curious about it? But idk. I know most of the spoilers anyway cuz they’re all over the internet so I don’t know if there would be any point. XD
I read Six of Crows and Gave it 4 stars because the plot and writing was good, but Idk I only liked two of the characters and I just never connected THAT much to it. I’m not not in LOVE?
I recent;y read the first Throne of Glass book and liked it, but I know I’d hate her other series. Like NO thank you. XD
Yess, one like mee !! xD I mean.. you can always watch the movies first and THEN explore the books to go more in-dept into the background stories?
Oh I see.. ahaha yeah XD there’s some things like that
Ohmygoodness, why didn’t I found out about you before?! I’m on my way to following your blog on Feedly! I know I commented sometime this week but I’m saying this now because you aren’t into HP! I’m not the only one! I watched the movies (if you count fast-forwarding all the boring parts which were the majority of them) and I wasn’t completely impressed.
By Sarah J Maas, I read Throne of Glass and it was okay for me, nothing memorable. I did enjoy ACOTAR, even though it was slow. I like my fantasies, Paranormal, and sci-i to be fast paced. I enjoyed Six of Crows, but again, it was super slow! It took a while for me to get into it.
OMG You also weren’t into Hunger Games?! Seriously, where have you been?! I enjoyed the movies. I tried to get into the books but I just couldn’t. I never read the third book.
Ahhh!! Yess another one like mee !! Seems like we are so few in book blogging that actually aren’t into HP, eh? 😂
Hahaha idk! I’ve been in my hole, it seems 🙈 although I did watched half of HP movies, HG movies don’t even interest me either ..
