Why dachshunds?!

Heeya!
Upon first glance at my blog, hell even within the name itself đ, you can most definately guess what my favorite breed is! And just because I absolutely LOVE talking about them, hereâs a more «off topic» rambly post about dogs đ
* This idea has probably sat in my head for a solid MONTH now đ sprawn in the middle of the night and so did my speech in my head for it..
Â
Believe it or not, this tad âobsessionâ of mine is quite new-ish.. Iâve grown up with a cat, and my mother owned two dogs: One âbigger-but-not-giantâ poodle from momâs pregnancy up to my 11th years, and a miniature poodle from my 12years up until I was roughly 20. They both lived 10 and 11 years respectively.
The first poodle was a sweetheart, always acting like a big brother and letting me do ANYTHING I wanted with him â I quite literally have a picture where younger me has one of his paws in my mouth and heâs totally chill with it đ Â The second one though.. he had gotten attacked by a Berneese Mountain dog one day my parentâs were visiting a friendsâ house (it was their kidâs dog) â and it left him pretty aggresive, although mom had started being really sick too so he was quite protective of her.. but that experience left me with a little hate of poodles..
Â
I canât even remember why or when I started dreaming of owning a dachshund xD it just kinda happened.
The oddest thing though, is that when my mom was a child, they had a brown dachshund named âmiquetteâ (Fr). Of course I never gotten to met her, as mom said one of her cousin tried to pick her up and the poor thing got hurt and started being aggressive.. but itâs quite the coincidence if you ask me!
-Though it doesnât look like a dachshund on the pictures to me but..-
Â
We know they are a smoll breed with a big character, so you pretty much gotta have that good âleaderâ side to get them to listen to you or else they gonna overrun everything (small dog syndrome, which is VERY bad). But if the breed matched your character as an individual.. they do this lovely thing where you become literally OBSESSED with anything that has a dachshund shape on it đ Â Doesnât matter what or whatâs itâs purpose â you just suddently need it!!
*Ive even gotten my eyes on some dachshund shaped ICE TRAYS⊠and I just want them.. rofl
Cue the dead scream and various yelling upon spotting one, living or shaped; mine is usually yelling «OMG A SAUSAGE!!» out of absolute nowhere ahaha â as said in a previous post, upon seeing dachshunds at my drive thruâs, some customers must think that iâm bonkers acting so strongly like that xD itâs just leaving on itâs own, we canât help it.
Â
Â
As in humans, each doggo has their own personalities; but thereâs just thoses specific character traits that the dachshundâs breed has.. despite the âbad onesâ like being known to bark alot, dig and being stubborn..
- Loyalâ this breed is more a one-person kinda deal.. of course theyâll love everyone but mainly only one âleaderâ per pack.
- Cuddly/loving â okay, so as all dogs youâre gonna tell me .. but even if they say dogs donât âunderstandâ kisses, I swear mine does! Sheik quite literaly swings her face in yours to continue kissing her head. Itâs adorable! Plus.. Iâve never seen dachshunds NOT piling over each other to sleep. They just, ALL individuals from everywhere just full on pile on others.. for all occations â never seen that before đ
-They also do nice pillows- - Smart â iâm just amazed by what theyâre able to do sometimes xd Sheik straight up opened the screen door to the patio with her nose by herself! I didnât showed her that..
- Comical â just the way they act, like the big dog that theyâre NOT, with their adorable physique and all.
Â
Â
Theyâre quite a particular and fantastic breed, in my opinion. Thoses little furry sausages on legs were first breed to hunt badgers, foxes and even boars!! Although itâs important to closely watch their weight and little backs as it can be problematic and prone to back problems; commonly called the IVDD (ironically, momâs first poodle most definately had that.. wrongly bred with paws too big for itâs spine) where they can need expensive surgeries & sometimes even a tiny wheelchair.
The breed has quite itâs unique character, in many different aspects, and generally prefer the company of other sausage dogs; which you can probably tell is literally heaven on earth for me đđđŒ  nothing is better than a field full of dachshunds of various coats, shapes and colors; thus me travelling 6hrs to go to my dachshund race event «wiener-paw-looza» just a province over!
Â
Â
Iâm fascinated by them and love to read articles about âmyâ breed, and I can talk about them all day if anyone wanna hear me đ
Other of my dachshunds posts: All about my dachshunds, My dachshunds saved my life, My favorite breed in books; dachshunds.
I love all dogs, though I have a special fondness for Jack Russells (current dogs) and Basset Hounds (childhood dog) but Dachshunds do have a very cute body type! Honestly, my dream is to get a huge house and back garden and just adopt a lot of different dogs! And also have a huge bed and couch so it can hold a lot of them đ
I agree! Small dogs definitely act like they’re as tall as a building đđ
Ahaha oh yeah thoses are really cute too! Though I never really personally experienced them.. but the bassets is one of the breed they crossed to get dachshunds! I also like greyhounds, regulars or italians.
Ah yess thatâd be a dream đ Iâd also LOVE to be a rescue foster mama for dachshunds in need.. But then iâd probably keep them all so rofl đ
