What I like about you ~ Marissa Kanter ☆ Review

Heya!

Finally, my first finished book of the year! Although it doesn’t “really count” as it got started in 2020.. but hey, one book off of my tbr-mountain!

Anxiety & Jewish reps.

I love how this book pinpoint book blogging to a T — even with the booktwitter drama with a “problematic” author; How for some reason YA being mainly for younger audiance is fighted about – of course you want everyone to enjoy your book, but marketing it for teens first aren’t a bad thing!

I definately want more books with realistic book blogger characters, or even just blogging in general!! And while I know why the author did this.. i’m kinda sad the book cited aren’t real 😪 Fireflies and you looked particularly good, being about drifted apart bestfriends.. we never have enough of bestfriends breakups!

I quite liked Nash & Halle’s Character. Using a persona online is a good thing, specially for teenagers, and it does makes total sense with her specific situation of having her grandmother’s legacy that she wanna create a place where that doesn’t exist.

That being said, trying to juggle two identity at once with someone that you’re close with your persona just never sounds like a good thing.. you’re gonna get caught eventually. While Nash could’ve had understand it because of said gradmother’s relations, knowing you choosed not to tell him right away.. one can only imagine how that could feel..

While we can understand how she’d both wanna save their friendship with Kels, while also wanna be liked for who she really is as a whole and not for a part of her that she created… She hit a point of no-return. No matter what she does now, she’s running the possibility of losing Nash as both of her identities; because can you really keep talking to him as Kels like nothing happened as Halle?

I know I personally picked when I would’ve had told him.. and I was eager to know which solution she’d choose now; Tell him via Halle, Tell him via Kels (my pick), Do a public reveal via her blog (my 2nd choice)… or run away.

I had stop my nightly reading at the most worst timing; while I wanted to know how she was gonna splur it out and to know how Nash was gonna react… I totally didn’t wanted to continue reading and see my ship go down. After the 57% mark, I just needed to finish the whole book and I just couldn’t stop — and that pain.

As a reader, you just KNOW it wouldn’t be “realistic” to have him nor her blogger friends just accept it and go on with their lives- it just can’t. But the feels that got through me.. if I would’ve had been Halle right that moment, I would’ve had hit my head with a shovel or something, or melt to the ground, ANYTHING. I felt her despair of losing everything, despite knowing that it was indeed her fault for not admitting earlier..
