Am I succeeding reading more French books?

Good morning!

I shared with y’all earlier how harder it had been for me to pick french native books, I had a phase where I seemed to be so much more attracted to english novels VS my mother tongue.. despite needing the balance as a palet cleanser, reading in french is very much easier on my brain and I seem to be able to read faster.

I’ve reached my halfway point with 20 books, and so far i’ve accomplished reading 40%* of my reads in french- totaling 9* books for 13 english! Excellent if you ask me!!

So i’ve found out that the horror genre works really well for me in french actually, better than in english, isn’t that wierd? On those 8 reads, I had a romance, a true crime, 5* horror, 1 horror fantasy & a litteraty.

Another point: I rarely reads through english series. No idea why, closest has been The cornershop of Cockleberry Bay where i’ve read 3 books out of 4.. the rest I don’t even go close to halfway – most times I read one or two maximum. In french i’ve picked up four to five books in the same “serie” of retelling stories remade into horror, I finished my Anna Carita horror book serie, and I’m missing only the second part of the last book in another horror serie called Youtumeurs.

The only bad thing though is that they’re mostly available to me through amazon.. the french books in my local bookstore is incredibly limited and if you take for exemple my favorite french true crime youtuber, they’ll publish independantly through amazon. As books are in Quebec French aswell must have an impact as i’m in a different province, you’ll think they’d be more handily available throughout their indie libraries and such.
