Are your reading habits changing in the summertime?

Good morning!

Time for another bookish converse post ✨ Today I wanna know;

  • Do your reading progress change in the summertime (for better or worst) ?
  • Do you get through your books more slowly, thus being able to read fewer books in the summer months?

I don’t think of myself as a seasonal reader; meaning that I don’t choose any particuliar books to read within the seasons change (exemple; christmas books in winter, etc.). However, I feel like i’m currently gravitating a bit less towards reading.

while in my case, this might be a bit biased due to the differences of this year with the covid changing things all around- but I feel more into playing videogames instead. Although my reading capability is still struggling, so I concentrate more on reading before sleep in the middle of the night than I would try to read anywhere daytime; especially if my parents are at home (meaning more noises and etc. not allowing me to properly concentrate on the story).

If we also take my mother for exemple; She started reading more actively while in dialysis, as she had 4hrs to kill almost everyday. She’s still reading although she’s no longer in dialysis now, but she tend to read more within the winter- as there’s not really much to do as it’s super cold, there’s snowstorms and etc. As we go into summer months, and the weather gets better, she’s ditching books to go take some nature photographs instead.

She had tried to borrow one of my unread books, but she ended up returning it to me as she wasn’t feeling for it right now.

Giving that there’s “less” things that are open to the public right now due to the corona, or even that we’re more scared to go anywhere, so this year might be an exception. Many are also going into vacation during theses months, so you’d think that reading would be increasing.. however within my week of vacation, I actually didn’t read as much as I would’ve had thought 😅 I was hoping to atleast be able to finish ONE book but alas.. that didn’t happened.

What about you ?
Is there another hobby that you replace reading with during summer time?

  1. I’ve found that I actually read less this summer compared to last summer. I’m not sure what COVID has done but it’s really made it hard for me to read or focus for super long amounts of time anymore. The plus side to this is I’ve stopped reading every random book recommended to me and have been more selective with the books/arcs I choose. Now it seems I’ve been reading a lot of good content and have mostly 4 & 5 star reads.

    I definitely found other hobbies… most notably video games and cooking 😂

    1. It does sounds like the same as me, which is a peak in anxiety/depression .. which makes sense with covid’s circumstances.. but atleast there was some good in it! Being selective is always a must .. specially with how many hyped book there is 😅

      I really should invest more time in cooking.. specially sweets! But yaass for gaming 👏🏼👏🏼
