Creating blog arts; Where to start?

Good morning!

It’s been a while now that i’ve started my blog, and as you can’t see, I haven’t quite started the “design” part of it.. it looks pretty nice, but I would like to invest more into cover pictures, blog arts, and etc.

So how about we just have a little blogging chat about thoses today?

To be completely honest here.. I have no idea where to even start 😓 all I know is that i’d wanna start to create stuff, so I can say it’s truly mine and you know.. it always make things so much more impressive!

My blog post covers right now are just made off canva with the “basic design” and the category, i’d love to have something a bit more personal and intricate than that.. add drawings, maybe some writings of my own.. basically dachshunds figures everywhere ahaha 👀 😂

If we think about it.. maybe the easiest way to start would be to practice drawing in the first place, as i’m no artist here ahah, and then a signature design/art could be a good “easy” place to begin with rather than the big blog header right away.

After having mastered the writing and the post schedule, I feel like it’s just the natural flow of things.. as it’s always good to evolve your art, eh! Growing and changing your blog along with the years of keeping it- thus making it better than it ever was.

Of course the thought of paying an artist to do it for me did crossed my mind! But the problem is that as I don’t even know what to include and what I want myself, it’d be kinda hard to express what I want for them to create, you know?

I definately can see doing it in the future, Like going from the free WP to self-host, but I would like to give myself a “base” first.

Please tell me;

  • Did you started incorporing your blog arts progressively after a while, or did you jumped into it all together?
  • What apps/program did you used?
  • Where do you feel would be the easiest for a “beginner” to start?
  • Would physical or digital art be better?
  • Any other tips for me??

    1. Yeah.. mostly. Graphics, cover pictures, signatures, etc.. but i was more picturing including digital drawing in my mind xd

That’s what i’ve been using so far aswell

  1. I think mine was progressive – I started out with an owl (from Google but I didn’t know back then, so glad I didn’t get sued) before I went to a royalty free art creator and then used a clip art vector before purchasing a license for one that I now use. I figured out the color of the blog first, though… and it took awhile longer with much playing around on Canva before I got to where I am today. But during that time I also had college classes that taught about branding to help me out too, so there’s that to consider (perhaps I would’ve gotten to that point when without it, but we’ll never know).

I know a lot of people use royalty free sites for their headers and footers, but I forgot where. Back when I used a signature, I created it through a program that’s no longer available and there were sites out there too. Now I just use a bio (because it’s easier).

    1. yeaah, iknow there’s a few that have a relating course like programing or design like Clo do.. so they got to experience and learn and I have not even a remote idea of what in hell im doing xD ..kinda regretting on that now ahah

i’m not imaginative in any way either – so like canva and royalty free website are nice and all but- idk what to even do with them.. i’d much prefer to incorpore an image I personally made (like my header right now with the christmas tree) or a drawing or ANYTHING — but sadly, im not creative enough to save my life on any point xD

  2. I redid my blog design this year, and used Kat @novels and waffles’ blog design tips – she has a whole section on her blog dedicated to those, and the free resources are excellent. I used her blog spring cleaning checklist, if I remember correctly, and changed my blog colors, theme, and design, to fit better what I had in mind.

It’s definitely possible to do better than what I did, but for someone who doesn’t do graphic design, I think it’s okay. I use GIMP on my laptop to do my graphics now, with free brushes I added and a free font, and the same base model for all my post headers.
