Dealing with memory loss

Good morning friends!

It has been a while that we had a rambling on mental health, hasnt it?

In case you didn’t know, memory losses have different causes ofcourse- one of them being anxiety, depression, or even ADHD. Navigating memory losses, especialle as a “younger adult” can be particularly infuriating, but for the person affected than for their surrounding.


 

Funnily enough, both me and mother fall into the memory loss causes; hers being because of dialysis and kidney transplant, mine bein from anxiety and depression. Although she’s 50, and i’m only 30- I can tell you people doesn’t expect my age to have memory losses.. surely i’m too young for that right!

Hers is way more developped than mine however, where she needs to write everything down in order for her to go back and memorize it. Mine being way more mild, i’m thanksfully not to that stage yet.

 

Memory is such a wierd thing too, I swear I can remember something I saw for exemple on tumblr what seems to me like just then, to go searching for it and not finding it as it appear it had been more than a month 🙈 I also somehow remember almost everything Ive written on- sometimes thinking “ah I did post about that already”… for said post being more than a year ago!

On the contrary, and especially in the workplace, you can ask me the next day if it was busy last night or what happened and i’d have no idea. Have I taken this food out yesterday or last week? No idea. Stress seems to be involved in this, where in period of stress id be more likely to not remember. Especially my yelling when I get in panic mode in specificly hard rushes

 

Just earlier today, I joked about being a computer needing more memory gigs, after my coworker just asked me if I had filled something or not the day prior. I find it funny and yet sad that I can recollect something you might’ve said to me 3months ago on a given day and not something i’ve not or said not even 24hrs prior 🫣

Perhaps i’d rather give the explanation that I have a selective memory; usually people just laugh it off, rather than when you say you have memory loss, people tend to be on the fence and deny it just because “you’re too young for that!” — in periods where I was overly stressed, I had found myself so frustrated of not being able to remember all my tasks, as of which i’ve been doing the same thing for over 5years now! I’d be focus on doing something and my next task to be Y, but gotten distracted, which would override my original plan and make me do that instead, completely forgetting task Y. (Yes, I’m pretty sure I have undiagnosed ADHD like my mother) The next day i’ll come to work to my coworker pointing I’d missed task X, Y,Z… which i’d then remember that yes. I did wanted to do that and forgot. To which my older coworker would answer me with a “what do you mean, you forgot?”
