First impression Monday | Our year of Maybe

Heey people!

Look who’s late again.. 😅 This is supposed to be on Fridays, but I just got the first part done of this book and  have THOUGHTS!!! And I figured it might be best to just use this meme, instead of it’s own post by itself?…

• Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions
and predict what you’ll think by the end.

• Did you think you’d love and ended up hating it? Or did you think
you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right?
• Link back to Storeys of Stories so I can enjoy reading all the

First Impression Fridays out there!

First- I was a bit dissapointed seeing that most of the reviews of this book were SO focused on the teenage love story instead of the major plot point being the kidney transplant (which is what I was most interrested about) .. but I digress, because most people are lucky enough not to know and/or care as much about that as I do — because It is straining on the family and hurtful, even when you’re not the one getting through it *yourself*

Little backstory here; i’m quite knowledgeable in this topic, as mother went through all the dialysis possible (peritonial aswell as the hemodialysis- passing by the night cycler at home) and she got a kidney transplant in April 2015 from a deceaced patient.

I love how the author explains the process in the book, not quite in dept as I know about them, but good enough that readers can have an idea. Specially love how they refer as his dialysis as “the exchanges”.

Though not quite the same as with a parent, I 100% understand Sophie’s motive and will – because I did got the same for mother. When you love the person like we do, the choice is an easy one, though on my case I wasn’t at all scared of the surgery — it’s quite less bad on the giving patient than on the receiving one.. But it turns out I was unable to, because she had so much antibodies from all the infections she got, that her blood sample acted up with mine.

Living donors are quite rarer (though most chances that it will work, because the kidney didn’t had a chance to stop functionning), but even rarer to read about them!! So I’m pleased to see it happening with Sophie & Peter.

What they don’t tell you, however, is how it’s very true that the receiving patient’s personality might change a little after the transplant. All our body have our DNA code in them, so putting something with another set of DNA than the original will have an impact. Mostly little details, like picking up little habits from the receiver — Less drastic in this case, because it is Sophie’s DNA rather than a complete stranger.. but again, very pleased that someone finally talks about this !!!

My prediction;

Ithink i’ll really LOVE this one, definately a 4,5-5stars for me! Though I like the romance, I sure hope they just won’t stop talking about Peter’s situation & the transplant after it’s over and just.. brush past it as if it never happened because now that would suck.

Although you do have another chance at life, it never erase all the pain we went through, aswell as how important it is to prevent getting sick, because we’re killing the immunity system by anti-rejection medication and if we need to high it up again because of an infection … we run the risk of the body realizing this is not a part of them and reject it.

Have you read this one, did you liked it?
