First, We make the beast beautiful ~ Sarah Wilson ☆ Review

Good morning,

I finally finished another book! This was quite long & boring at times- but just because I would’ve been in the mood for something more “fictionnal” & feel-y.. but at the same time I really wanted to finish it because it was interesting and I believe it was some kind of needed read; love me to learn more about my own anxiety.

Goodread’s page
 3.5 / 5 stars

I love the mix of things included in this book: we are juggling with her own experience with Anxiety, some theories about the illness, facts by scientists, aswell as some little exercices that did worked on her.

One of the things that resonated with me, that I didn’t quite grasped  before reading it, but that absolutely made me go “!!!” — was how people seem to have a physical VS intellectual response to panic attacks. The ones that I get are the intellectual ones, where you know what’s going on, and thus the over-awareness of it make you spiral even further.. wether as the physical ones are usually physical signs (heart racing, short of breath, dizziness, etc.) that the person might not clue-in as panic attacks and get scared of dying.

I also liked the idea of how anxiety could be our superpowers .. in modern times, it can help us to pursue our dreams, or act like our very own signalisation lights of wether or not we’re going in the right direction. Before our era, research shows that it was the more anxious of the colony that made sure the group stayed alive, by alerting them of the predators.

So is the purpose behind the novel; learning to be kind and love yourself. Of not seeing anxiety as something to treat or get rid of.. but rather something beautiful that can be part of our very own individual moments.

Sidenote, I really appreciated & got really happy to see “Reasons to stay alive” from Matt Haig being cited so many times in this novel!!
