Fountain dead ~ Theresa Braun ☆ review

**Disclaimer: I did received a copy of this book from the author for review purpose. This has in no way, shape or form affected my opinion on it**

I got contacted by the author to review this YA horror novel early last month, and genuinely had wanted to have the review done by Halloween but I got my little “slag” and unfortunately everything got delayed.

However, I am happy to have it ready for the release tomorrow ! Without further ado, here’s my review !

My review;

3 / 5 = Enjoyable at times, but found it hard to understand mainly as I have English as a second language.

While I found myself enjoying parts of it, I quite often stumbled on “older” english words I had never heard of before and didn’t understood – most of which my kobo’s definition/translation couldn’t give me an answer either, so my reading got slowed at times trying to figure what thoses words meant.  It did fit with the context of the story being in the 1800’s & 1988 – But being a person having english as a second language, it was harder for me, and frankly as it is categorised as Young Adult, I got surprised at how hard the writing was for me to understand.

The “back & forth” between the two timelines was hard for me to grasp at first as was a bit lost onto what was happening; but as I read further, the time laps gave you little tips where my brain placed puzzle pieces together and making assumptions of what I thought was gonna happen.

It had started to become really interesting at about 70% in the book; as of which I would’ve had finished the last 30% in one setting, if it wouldn’t had been so late already. The actions started to make more sense and I was eager to finally discover what was up with that fountain and what in hell that beast was – although the novel is on the shortest side already, all the *before* was a bit too slow-paced for me; though probably needed in some way to set the atmosphere and the keys of the story ..

Fewer percentages later, it became harder again for me to grasps onto what was going on and added with the back and forth, the turn of the story and it’s ending didn’t made any sense to me. Again, most of it would’ve probably had been better enjoyed if it would’ve be written in an “easier” english for me.

  1. I came here for the title! I seriously thought it was Fountain head. What is wrong with me? And I am sorry that you didn’t enjoy it.
