Let’s talk Bookish ➙ Long VS short book serie

Heyo!

Today we have May 5th’s prompt, discussing book series, from Hannah @ Hannah’s Library: What is the ideal number of books in a series? Does it depend on the genre? Do you prefer longer series with five or more books, or shorter series with less than that? Have you ever read a duology and if so, did you wish it was longer, or was two books enough for the story?

Let’s Talk Bookish is a bookish meme that was created by Rukky @ Eternity books where each Friday, bloggers write posts discussing the topic of the week! Since the beginning of April, the meme has been taken over by Aria @ Book Nook Bits; She also created the pretty new graphics!

General rule, I don’t seek book series – I’ll mainly read standalones, or the first book of a serie and not continuing with the others.. or sometimes, like with the last of august, I read the second book in a serie and not the others 🤣 I’d also avoid long series like the plague – my record is 9books.. read when I was younger, more than that it’s a no.

I feel like the bigger series tend to stay in fantasy settings? and as I don’t read fantasy, I’m advantaged here. Duology or Trilogy I can do, and my most favorite can be longer “series”, but being standalones as companion books that you don’t need to read the rest; or at most that there isn’t a specific order that you need to read them in.

My completed series;

  • Le Journal d’aurélie laflamme8books, 9th published a decade later
  • Anna Caritas7 books; 5 books, 1 “prelude” & the 5th book being in two parts
  • Celestial Creatures4 books (had meant to be a trilogy, but too much story so got one more)
  • Cockleberry Bay4 books; 3 books, 1 spin-off holiday (haven’t read the 3rd, but the spinoff yes)
  • Sovereign5 books; 3 books, 2 “prelude” (Haven’t read both prelude to the story)

Beside my most book in a serie being a “diary form” of a teenager i’ve read throughout my youth, the next big series is horror followed by fantasy. Ironically, I’ve started reading Sovereign, Celestial Creatures & Anna Caritas as the author was still writing the following books – I’ve worked with Josie Jaffrey & Olga Gibbs on their blog tours, and i’m still wating for the part 2 of Anna Caritas.

That been said, I rarely join and finish series as they’re done being written 😅

What do you think of book series?
Is there such things as too much books?
