Good morning!
We are yet again joining a meme rather late after the prompt day 😅 but i’ve read Clo’s post about this and I’ve been wanting to take part aswell! (I hope that’s alright!)
You can read Rukky’s post here for another take on this topic.
Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books and Dani @ Literary Lion. Where we discuss certain topics, share our opinions, and spread the love by visiting each other’s posts.
📚 August 14; Do You Use an Online Persona for Book Blogging? (suggested by Lydia @ Lydia Schoch)
Wierdly enough.. I haven’t really thought about creating a separate online persona for myself; Not that i’m that great with creating pseudonyms for myself to begin with or anything 🤦🏽♀️ My imagination is lacking.. which I kinda regret when you see some nice names onlines all the time! Mine’s just- the plain basic with a play on my name, usually.
Recently i’ve been more attached to « Kris », which is a nickname that started at work- actually. I’ve sort-of always looked at it as something masculine.. but you know what, I kinda liked it; so I started taking it over.
Although I see now that maybe I shouldn’t, because online safety and all that- which does get me paranoid at times 🙊, I don’t see a particular line between my IRL self and my online self.
I mean, of course it’s easier to write things rather than saying them sometimes.. and maybe I prefer to write things more than saying them (which is kind of why I don’t have a Booktube but a blog..) — I’m a thinker, which keeps me up at night fairly often.. So it’s easier for me to just write my thoughts away and then tweak them with re-reading to make sure that it all make sense, rather than leaving them in the world right away with speaking them.
I’ve decided that my blogging voice should remain like how i’m thinking them in my head, with no artifice or tweak to sounds more “profesionnal”.. because I sure think that it makes you feel more close to the blogger — thus it make everything else the more engaging. THIS is what’s different between all the other blogs out there.
Now if you’ve even been on my blog before.. you know already that i’m quite the oversharer 😅 I started as a book blog only; but within my 2years of blogging, I’ve extended my blog to be whatever the hell i’ve been wanting to write about, including: Gaming, Mental Health, Blogging in general, on some rare cases animes, and yep- my personal life has quite it’s average place here aswell.
I don’t really have a specific schedule onto how many personal posts I’m doing VS bookish or other kind of posts whatsoever; basically it’s all with how i’m feeling in the moment. For exemple, on the month that I’ve felt more down, my inspiration happened to be more on mental health posts.
Do you use a persona online?
What are your thoughts on sharing personal things?
Jamsu is my nickname in real life by my sister and friends so… kinda? But I also often reveal my real name. My blog name just sounded better with the nickname (that I have been using for over a decade) than with my real name. But my internet self is exactly the same as my real self. i don’t usually get uncomfortable about personal questions unless they’re by guys, for some reason men asking me personal questions make me want to run away.
I mean, it’s kinda fair. Men are often seen like predators by habit of society now; imean- even if they would be in front of me .. id be uncomfortable anyway. (Well- depend what’s the question too.. and how personal it is)
