Love the gothic horror feels to this one, I’m imagining an old mansion barely in ruins and not being taken cared of. We tumble between the past & present; we have Roos our main character who’s telling the story while being interrogated by a doctor following Agnes’ death where she is suspected.
Roos has been “faking” being a medium and doing séances with her “mama”, with the use of her spirit companion Ruth. While she’s really being possessed, it’s always by Ruth and not the client’s loved ones like they make it up to be. The relationship between Roos and her spirit companion is very possessive, they’re bonded by her blood and by her naming the spirit. It also turns out to be positive in a way as Ruth is very affectionate and take care of Roos so she’s not alone, and would also take care of anyone who hurts her (by possessing her and harming them through her body, which is less positive..)
That being mentioned, we soon realize how she’s an unreliable narrator.
