Reading goals; Aka things I hope book blogging would help me with

Hello!

A while ago i’ve wrote about all the improvements that i’ve seen in my reading since joining the blogging world. As of which, in case you didn’t knew, the degradation of my mental health created this problem where I couldn’t immerge myself in a book, aswell as affecting my ability to concentrate and my lack of imagination — up to making it so hard to even finish a single book cover to cover.

Long story short, blogging helped me greatly and i’m onto the road of recovery to (hopefully) a better “reading mode” than I even started with! There’s however a few more things that i’d like to be able to accomplish.

❤️  Being able to finish reading 20 books a year is amazing! But i’d love to go even nearer the 50s.. (4 or 5 books a month has been my highest score so far)

❤️  Being able to finish a book under a week-span would be awesome! (The shortest i’ve finished a book in is 6days)

❤️  Pushing it a bit further, I’d love to read a book in ONE day — that isn’t a poetry, short story collection or a comic. Which honestly haven’t happened in years, sadly..

❤️  Upgrading my reading speed a notch- as i’m quite the slow reader still.. even worst for fantasy!

❤️  Being able to get onto the fantasy genre as much as the other bloggers.. atleast developing my imagination so it’s less harsh on my brain and time consuming to read.

❤️  Freely participate in read-a-thons/buddy reads without feeling the guilt and shame of “only” going as far as finishing a single book and/or reading so slow

The list of things that I’d like to get better at/fix is still kinda long, even when we look at how many things I can finally accomplish since the start of my journey — but iknow that some are pushing WAY overboard and probably won’t be available for me to reach anytime soon (looking at you, read in one day).

Nonetheless, being able to finish a WHOLE book again, even if it’s “only” 20 a year is still amazing considering how much I felt at lost and like I was loosing this in the past.. and look at me- reading novels in my second language when I truly thought I would never be able to.

Are there things you’d wish to ameliore with the help of book blogging?

  1. this is a cool post! like on the one hand im totally with you, on the other hand i do feel that the bookish community sets too high and too specific a standard for everyone to engage with. like take readathons for example, you shouldnt feel bad or like you have to improve your reading abilitys to participate in the community

    1. Yeah.. it’s true that the community tend to pressure you into doing some stuff or *wanting* to do some stuff more than others. Iknow that i’m not tend to reread less, when growing up it was something i was doing all the time!
So much more stuff we are being constantly aware of ..

Technically I could still participate! But not even being able to finish a book makes me feel effy about it when the others finished 3 or 4 you know.. because again, it’s hard not to compare..

  2. I’ve never been able to finish a book in a day even graphic novels, short stories, etc. We just got to go at our own pace right? Good luck with your goals!

    1. Ah! Well atleast it wasn’t me 😅 the worst is knowing it’s something you used to do…. and then you can’t anymore :/
      Thank you xx

    1. Thank you!
Hahaha yeah there’s a definite line, you wanna pick a bit of speed- while still remembering what you read for sure! I hate finishing my reading and being like « …I have no idea what I just read »

    1. yeah, I get what you mean.. it would’ve probably had been the case for me too years ago before that little “hole” there happened.

So many hobby, so little time ..
