Reading or Gaming; which one wins?

Good morning,

As you should know if you’ve already stumbled on my blog, reading & gaming are two of my main hobbies.. hell, you might also say they’re my only hobbies, really 😅  Now, which one majorly wins over the other?

Being a book blog, you’d think perhaps i’d put most of my time reading, right? ..I’m sorry to dissapoint, but it’s actually quite the opposite 😬  especially lately, for whatever reason, but it’s always easier to priorizing gaming more than reading.

Now I have a few reasons for that one;

❤︎ Gaming need less “brain power” from me. Since my mental health problems first hits with anxiety & depression, my concentration & ability to imagine things from books changed drastically. As daytime is usually a sea of distractions to my reading (such as my dogs, mother who keep talking, the television, etc.), it becomes so much more preferable to be gaming instead, as i’m not distracted as much — and some of my gaming favorites do need less to no concentration (Like sims..)

❤︎ Multitasking. I’m always doing more than one thing at the same time- either talk to my friends, watching youtube or netflix, bloghopping .. Which ofcourse gaming is the one to allow me to do this, in the exception of audiobooks.

❤︎ Allergy aches/migraines. For days like the day i’m writing this, where for some reason my head has been hurting all day, again it is easier to focus on a game than trying to work my brain to figure what the words means.

❤︎ Easier to get down. Either or, i’m not too happy to it put down, let it be said x) But for exemple when I take my 30mins break at work, it’s easier to press pause and close my switch to go back to work/interrupt my break for a rush that it’d be if I would be reading. When I do get into a book, I have this habit of NOT wanting to finish my reading session if it’s not on a chapter break; pushing me to maybe extend my break a few minutes.. whoops.

Which one do you tend to priorize more?
Either if gaming or another hobby?

  1. It’s the same question I ask myself quite often, and gaming does usually win. I tend to like to read books in one sitting, so an evening after work or a lunchtime doesn’t work for me, but I cam easily pick a game up.

    1. Man it had been so long since i’ve finished a book in one sitting 😅 glad to hear i’m not alone though!

  2. I relate to this so much!! I’ve been taking less time to read and more time to watch movies and shows. I feel for me that it may be a bit of a burnout thing. I’ve spread myself way too thin for too long, plus the pandemic… I just need time to tune out a little more. <3

    1. Mmhmm I agree- i go in phases that particular things interrest me more. Per exemple, I looped out of anime & even true crime again xd
