The blogger’s block struggles

A Blogger’s block (or blogging block) is exactly the same thing as a writer’s block; except, well, for blogging.

We undeniably all go through it at some points in our blogging “career”, having different cures depending on the reason behind your block. There’s multiple reasons, and you may tend to only get one kind, or multiples at the same time- each bloggers is different.

As a general rule though, taking a break is always a good idea; and especially when the block is due to the fact that your brain just.. can’t pull out ideas anymore. The brain need a break to chill & “think” for a while.

The problem however, is when you have anxiety and are afraid of the block.. which resume like the fear of being scared. We know we need it, and ironically being scared of it won’t help much in your brain actually taking the space it needs 😅 which end up in your block being worst.

I’ll admit that i’m one of thoses who tend to wanna push through the block, until my wheel magically starts back spinning — though that usually end up with poor quality posts and/or and over-saturation of memes & tags (we do love them! But too much of them in a short span isn’t good either.. well in my opinion)

I need the reminder that I can take a break. I can skip a day or a week if I want to – nobody will get mad at me, and my blog will be there when I come back.

Especially now that i’m spending money on self-hosting, this is an issue for me. One day is rather okay.. but more than that, I panic. Why? Because anxiety gets to my brain that if I stop posting ONCE, I won’t ever be able to get back to it.

Which is ofcourse very false. WE are the one to decide wether or not we wanna get back to it… not my anxiety. If we go even further, I almost dropped my blog within the first month of it’s launch and took a week of hiatus, and what happened? I somehow got back and i’ve been nourishing this hobby for 3years now. Surely that should be enough of a proof, no?

The most frustating part of the block for me, is when you actually wanna write, and have an idea of what you wanna write about… but no idea how to get there to form a post.

Worry comes and not only wonder if readers would even click or like the post- but goes further into wondering how long the post is even gonna be ?? Because yes, although it’s not a problem in itself, i’m still very anxious about having too short posts. They just feels … wrong. Sometimes I even wonder the worth of this, if it all even matter in the end: anxiety taking the wheel and going rogue with it.

Have you gotten one of thoses blocks before?

What did you do to make it pass; do you have a specific way to go about it, or do you just wait it out?

  1. As someone who’s had a blog for over 3 years and only 42 posts to date, I get this. My life is a blogger’s block haha. At this point, I have accepted it. If I don’t have anything that I actively wanna discuss or mention, I just don’t, even if it ends up in a months-long drought. I started the blog as a hobby for fun, not to stress about needing to talk about something just to post something. If it gets too stressful and feels like work, then I just step back. I do feel like I take a lot of very extended breaks as a result, but I try my best not to force content during a block.

  2. I feel this post SO HARD! I have literally 330+ post ideas in my wordpress drafts (soph is so mad at me lol) and hardly the energy to write and format them. I’ve decreased my post count substantially over the past year to help offset that and stay somewhat active, but I still disappear every few months. I might schedule mini breaks regularly for mental health. Great post!

    1. Thank you!
Ah.. now scheduled breaks might be a good idea, actually. Omg- im one of thoses who just CANT have anything standing in my draft.. and surely not that much 😅🙊 I need to delete EVERYTHING that I dont use

  3. I’m the same as well with trying to push through the block! I’ve been trying to get better at it though, but I think it just results in review posts only, at least lately. 😂 Over the years I’ve been trying to take advantage of when I’m not in a block, and I just leave completed drafts sitting for ages. Unfortunately, the joke’s on me – I have completed drafts that I haven’t posted from 2019. 🤡

    1. Ohmylord x3 i cant keep anything in drafts that long.. or at all ahah im obsessing with deleting stuff 😅

Well.. atleast thats something! I still havent finished a book- so jokes on me I cant even review anything ahaha
