Valentine’s Book rec; Love for animals š¾

As we all know, thereās so much more type of love than the oneĀ usually celebrated on Valentineās Day. One of my favorite, is the link we have with different species of animals, which reciprocate an undying love for their owners in return.
As many of you know, my only daughter (sheās a dog btw)Ā have a mitral valve disease; which creates a heart murmur and thus enlarge a part of her heart. We just got Xrays of her heart done to see if sheās evolved into cardiac insufficiency- meaning thereād be āwaterā pooling in her lungs. We hopefully gotten the results back as youāre reading this; knowing if her heart medication need to be adjusted or if theyāre working as they should. All this to say that I would absolutely give her a bit of my years alive so she can stay with me as long as possible; the love I got for my dachshunds & cat is stronger than anything possible.
Ā
Iāve also shared on the love in a mother-daughter relationship, especially my experience Iāve had of being the carer of my own mother at a younger age (2020), aswell as a book recs on the power of strong friendships (2022).

When portraying animals in books, especially pets, I like them to have the āmain characterā vibes. I donāt like when the pet is treated as an object thatās written in & out of the story like it isnāt a major part of the characters storyā¦ as they are. Iāve read too many books like that and it really drives me nuts- the pets have as much room in the story than the parents or friends you keep on with throughout the book!Ā (Hell my three are a constant in my own dreams.. as so is my mother!)
Ā
š No Judgements, Meg Cabot ;
Our MC literally put her life in danger staying behind in a hurricane to keep other peopleās pet stay alive while their owner had evacuated! Bonus for the Border Collie being saved from her drunk & abusive owner.
šĀ The other family doctor, Karen Fine ;
Throwing a memoir from a veterinarian here, as thereās so much beautiful stories of pets-owner relationships.. aswell as a few things they teach us about death.
šĀ The dachshund wears prada, Stefanie London;
What first started as a love-hate relationship with the tiny dachshund she has to care for, turns out into a loving relationship.. winning her owner in the end aswell! Bonus for a lovely sister relationship with her young sister.

What other books of the like would you recommend me?
As a dog and cat mum, I feel you about the love for your babies. I’m sorry to hear that about your little one but I hope the results show some stability in her condition! The Dachshund Wears Prada looks like a fun/cute read š
Sadly she wasn’t in yesterday so i’ll be getting a email later today! Fingers crossed, but i’m being positive- her behavior doesn’t show any decrease.
It was so good! I read it as an arc few years ago and absolutely loved it!
Loved that you made a post on the importance of pets, agree completely that pets shouldn’t be used as plot device. Putting no judgments by meg cabot on my tbr!
Thank you!
Happy to hear, that’s one that I hold back on for so long- but got pleasently surprised!
