What were we doing before Blogging?

We all know blogging take away some of our time; Writing and scheduling posts, thinking of what we can write, follow and comment of some of our fellow’s contents … Depending onto how often you do thoses things, the amount of time dedicated to that activity can be quite alot!

Then something occured to me … That time we take for thoses “new” activities must’ve be taken from somewhere else, doesn’t it ? What exactly were we taking that time for before we invested ourselves in that ?

Frankly, even as it’s only been a year for me… I fear I cannot even recall it 🤔 I mean- even when I was in school and such, I always had WAY too much time on my hands, not even knowing what to do of myself..

Possibility One; Gaming

Even now, I sometime pass way too much time into videogames than doing my blogging duties 😂 So it’s no doubt that’s one thing I must’ve been doing back then aswell ahah games like Sims and Legend Of Zelda has always been something I was a huge fan of, aswell as Animal Crossing New leaf which I was playing every. single. day. without fail at some point ! Now… while I still hop onto it to do the “basic” day-to-day stuff, I don’t stay on it as much as I used to.

Possibility Two; Managing a fb page (or five..)

This one is fairly similar to blogging, as I was planning up to 8 pictures to go up per day– When I was in college from 2012 to 2014, I was into several ones xD all into the same group of “administator’s” so all of them were linked together somehow. I had two Legend of Zelda ones, and passed into atleast five differents pokemon one… Though I didn’t kept them all at all time: I took some, laid back some, joined back on more, etc…

What I’m not keen on from that part of my “hobby”, was that I was some of thoses people who just took someone else’s picture/art to post.. with a link to them when possible, of course, though our “administrator” wasn’t keen on putting it in the post itself as it lowered the reach of the page .. Via tumblr’s creators, I got my eyes opened onto how bad that was for artist’s – and so I stopped doing it ! From them on I held a grudge against apps like “We heart it” and “pinterest” as I know thoses is where it happens more often.

Possibility Three; Tumblr

Now that I have this blog, I still go on there a fairly good amount of time spent on there but WAY less than I did in a time period of my life.. I still own my four blogs though (personal main, one for Zelda, one for Animal crossing, and a booklr). This was probably around the time I hit rocked bottom and stayed unemployed for 9 months..

After a while you run out of things to do .. I’d apply and go to interviews but nobody wanted to hire me so what can you do, right ? I feel like i’ve forgotten quite alot from that time; but I was mostly feeling awful and guilty of not working, gaming, and probably tumblr-ing aswell.. Which is where my “NEED TO BE PRODUCTIVE AT ALL TIME” that remains still come from 🙊 though I am now working “full time” (that means 29-39hours according to my boss, depend on the weeks)

What were you doing with that time before you became a blogger ?
Were you having as many time on your hand as me, or was your life more exciting? 😂 I wanna know !

  1. Maybe gaming lol

To be honest, I’ve been blogging since I was 14 so to not having blogging as a part of my life is difficult to fathom lol

    1. See, for a few years I had a period that I was really struggling with reading and actually finishing books.. to the point where I just “gnreh” out of frustration…. so Iknow this wouldn’t had been the case for me xD

  2. Honestly this is the same question I asked myself when I quit Tumblr. Looking back on that time I wondered how I spent so much time just scrolling through a website :’) I guess I was watching a lot more tv series and movies before blogging. Then again, I’m still watching a lot. I haven’t really found a balance between all the things I’m doing.. maybe someday. OH! How could I forget! I was studying until up until last July :’) I guess most of my time was spent in college or in my internships.. and travelling to my internships since they were pretty far from my house.. and also working two jobs :’)

    1. yikes ! yeah ..
my problem is how even while studying I always ended up having so?? many?? spare time?? like HOW- i have no idea xD I was never the studying type, but..

  3. Music, which I still do now, I just haven’t been able to do as much of my own stuff with all the groups I’m in, so, I’m still really bad at managing time and constantly busy or napping lol

    1. ahaha awww that’s something I would’ve really wanted to do – playing music. Sadly… that never happened xD I guess I could learn how-to now, but with my schedule being everywhere and not a “set-in-stone” shift hour, that can be complicated..

        1. Well… to be fair neither will I – I’m still paying a loan for something I won’t ever go in again 😂 and it’s accounting so I mean .. find something you love and do your best !

  4. Hmm, I was in the middle of an extended period when I had fuck all to do (long summer break + failing a year), so there was nothing to replace. Studying I guess? Now it’s the first time I have full-time classes again and I’m struggling to juggle everything. But generally, it just reshuffled where I dick around on the internet a bit.

  5. I am disabled right and getting my GED. I do volunteer work in order to gain experience, but that’s only once or twice a week. Other than school or therapy, blogging is my life. Whether it be my book blog or my Marvel blog on Tumblr. When I am not reading a book for the blog, I am writing fanfiction or trying to build my following online. Or trying to think of ideas for the book blog.
Sorry for the novel length comment 😩

    1. That was pretty much my reality aswell when I was in therapy/unemployed..
No worries for the novel comment ❤️ I love thoses! Hopefully it’ll get better for you

  6. I do spend a lot of time gaming and it was the only thing I did next to sporting and watching TV shows. I’m so glad that I started reading again and now have a nice balance of gaming and reading! What games do you play nowadays?

  7. oh man I spent so much time on Tumblr when I was in middle/high school; I kind of fell out of it towards the end of high school, but it’s still a pretty big influence on my blogging schedule and style! I had a main, a The 100-specific account, a writing/photography account, a studyblr, had a few other URLs I was hoarding, and I was an admin for a fanfiction-search/recommendation account 😅

since starting college, I think I spent my free time reading and keeping up with TV shows, though I did play some low-level smartphone and Facebook Gameroom games, so things like 2048 and Tetris Battle 🎮 oh, and probably some of that time was spent paying attention in class instead of bloghopping, like I’m doing right now 😜

this is such an interesting topic to think about! great post 💕

    1. Wow- I only discovered it in 2014 xD I was already out High School and college ahaha

      hehe thank youu ! 💕
I should honestly watch more tv shows.. I finished two atleast.. xD

  8. It’s been so long since I started my blog that I honestly have no clue what I did with all that free time :)) I know I studied, since I was in uni before I started my blog, which took up my free time, and I would binge watch TV shows. Tumblr…I can’t remember if it was a thing before I started blogging. I know that when I was on a blog slump I’d go on tumblr a lot. I dont know how I’d use this time if I were to stop blogging though, tbh. I fear I wouldn’t be productive at all.

          1. Agreed. You are absolutely right. In education it is so easy to get wrapped up in wanting to do more for the kids but now I’ve left it all together. So in the end it didnt help anyone.

          2. To me? Every day, every moment was always about and for the kids. They were my managers and my bosses. No one else. That is the blessing and curse of education.

  9. Before I started up blogging again I was scrolling aimlessly through Twitter, FB, Insta and whatever else. Please tell me blogging is at least a step up from that?

      1. Right. And we’re using our minds because we have to think how to word something and think about grammar and come up with ideas of things to talk about. And it’s fun! And it has definitely improved my mood and outlook.

        1. bonus for me, it keeps my english going ! Countless times I’ve stumbled on a word I never read before, so i’m learning things!

book blogging also improved my reading, which is exactly what I wanted ! 😄

  10. I mostly were obsessed over TV shows and talked about them in twitter. Few years ago I even made videos about them. Then I mostly read books or fanfiction. So my life hasn’t changed that much after I started blogging last summer. I still read a lot.

By the way I love your new theme!

  11. I think I was doing a lot more writing and freelancing before I got into blogging seriously. I think moving to a new country has got me glued to the blog world a lot more than earlier. I don’t think Pinterest falls in the same category as we heart and other curations.

    1. Oh? It could be ..

Well- i guess it depends with what. I’ve seen it happens with art and qr codes specially.. maybe it isn’t much there in the book blogging world?
