Why dachshunds?!

Heeya!

Upon first glance at my blog, hell even within the name itself šŸ˜‚, you can most definately guess what my favorite breed is! And just because I absolutely LOVE talking about them, hereā€™s a more Ā«off topicĀ» rambly post about dogs šŸ˜˜

* This idea has probably sat in my head for a solid MONTH now šŸ˜‚ sprawn in the middle of the night and so did my speech in my head for it..

Ā

Believe it or not, this tad ā€œobsessionā€ of mine is quite new-ish.. Iā€™ve grown up with a cat, and my mother owned two dogs: One ā€œbigger-but-not-giantā€ poodle from momā€™s pregnancy up to my 11th years, and a miniature poodle from my 12years up until I was roughly 20. They both lived 10 and 11 years respectively.

The first poodle was a sweetheart, always acting like a big brother and letting me do ANYTHING I wanted with him ā€“ I quite literally have a picture where younger me has one of his paws in my mouth and heā€™s totally chill with it šŸ˜‚ Ā The second one though.. he had gotten attacked by a Berneese Mountain dog one day my parentā€™s were visiting a friendsā€™ house (it was their kidā€™s dog) ā€“ and it left him pretty aggresive, although mom had started being really sick too so he was quite protective of her.. but that experience left me with a little hate of poodles..

Ā

I canā€™t even remember why or when I started dreaming of owning a dachshund xD it just kinda happened.

The oddest thing though, is that when my mom was a child, they had a brown dachshund named ā€œmiquetteā€ (Fr). Of course I never gotten to met her, as mom said one of her cousin tried to pick her up and the poor thing got hurt and started being aggressive.. but itā€™s quite the coincidence if you ask me!
-Though it doesnā€™t look like a dachshund on the pictures to me but..-

Ā

We know they are a smoll breed with a big character, so you pretty much gotta have that good ā€œleaderā€ side to get them to listen to you or else they gonna overrun everything (small dog syndrome, which is VERY bad). But if the breed matched your character as an individual.. they do this lovely thing where you become literally OBSESSED with anything that has a dachshund shape on it šŸ™Š Ā Doesnā€™t matter what or whatā€™s itā€™s purpose ā€“ you just suddently need it!!
*Ive even gotten my eyes on some dachshund shaped ICE TRAYSā€¦ and I just want them.. rofl

Cue the dead scream and various yelling upon spotting one, living or shaped; mine is usually yelling Ā«OMG A SAUSAGE!!Ā» out of absolute nowhere ahaha ā€” as said in a previous post, upon seeing dachshunds at my drive thruā€™s, some customers must think that iā€™m bonkers acting so strongly like that xD itā€™s just leaving on itā€™s own, we canā€™t help it.

Ā

Ā

As in humans, each doggo has their own personalities; but thereā€™s just thoses specific character traits that the dachshundā€™s breed has.. despite the ā€œbad onesā€ like being known to bark alot, dig and being stubborn..

  • Loyalā€“ this breed is more a one-person kinda deal.. of course theyā€™ll love everyone but mainly only one ā€œleaderā€ per pack.
  • Cuddly/lovingĀ ā€“ okay, so as all dogs youā€™re gonna tell me .. but even if they say dogs donā€™t ā€œunderstandā€ kisses, I swear mine does! Sheik quite literaly swings her face in yours to continue kissing her head. Itā€™s adorable! Plus.. Iā€™ve never seen dachshunds NOT piling over each other to sleep. They just, ALL individuals from everywhere just full on pile on others.. for all occations ā€“ never seen that before šŸ˜‚
    -They also do nice pillows-Ā
  • SmartĀ ā€“ iā€™m just amazed by what theyā€™re able to do sometimes xd Sheik straight up opened the screen door to the patio with her nose by herself! I didnā€™t showed her that..
  • ComicalĀ ā€“ just the way they act, like the big dog that theyā€™re NOT, with their adorable physique and all.

Ā

Ā

Theyā€™re quite a particular and fantastic breed, in my opinion. Thoses little furry sausages on legs were first breed to hunt badgers, foxes and even boars!! Although itā€™s important to closely watch their weight and little backs as it can be problematic and prone to back problems; commonly called the IVDD (ironically, momā€™s first poodle most definately had that.. wrongly bred with paws too big for itā€™s spine) where they can need expensive surgeries & sometimes even a tiny wheelchair.

The breed has quite itā€™s unique character, in many different aspects, and generally prefer the company of other sausage dogs; which you can probably tell is literally heaven on earth for me šŸ˜‚šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼ Ā nothing is better than a field full of dachshunds of various coats, shapes and colors; thus me travelling 6hrs to go to my dachshund race event Ā«wiener-paw-loozaĀ» just a province over!

Ā

Ā

Iā€™m fascinated by them and love to read articles about ā€œmyā€ breed, and I can talk about them all day if anyone wanna hear me šŸ‘€

  1. I love all dogs, though I have a special fondness for Jack Russells (current dogs) and Basset Hounds (childhood dog) but Dachshunds do have a very cute body type! Honestly, my dream is to get a huge house and back garden and just adopt a lot of different dogs! And also have a huge bed and couch so it can hold a lot of them šŸ˜‚

I agree! Small dogs definitely act like theyā€™re as tall as a building šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

    1. Ahaha oh yeah thoses are really cute too! Though I never really personally experienced them.. but the bassets is one of the breed they crossed to get dachshunds! I also like greyhounds, regulars or italians.

Ah yess thatā€™d be a dream šŸ˜ Iā€™d also LOVE to be a rescue foster mama for dachshunds in need.. But then iā€™d probably keep them all so rofl šŸ™Š
