Heya!
This weekend we celebrated Majora’s 4th birthday- which mean we’ve had him for a solid 3years already?! How did it go so fast?!
The question I get alot is if the cat is doing well with the dogs; as of which he is thriving. When I adopted him they said a cat pal was best.. while lo and behold, he hates other cats! 😅

As far as I can remember, i’ve always had a dog and a cat together. As a child, we had a medium sized poodle (he was supposed to be a toy.. puppy mills) and when I got to about 9 years old (?) we added a cat.
The older dog had to be euthanized due to IVDD (ironically without us knowing it was that) and another toy poodle came in. Then I got my own dachshund when I was graduating college, where we briefly had 2 dogs & a cat. The cat getting older, we had to put her down aswell as the second poodle, and we got my second dachshund.
As I’ve said alot of times in my “majora posts” ; I truly didn’t aim to have a cat again 🫢 I was still crying the loss of my childhood cat a decade ago and two dogs really is a handful. When I saw that kitten.. I just needed to have him- In fact, I rapidly regretted it as my first thought was “shit what am I gonna do if we get a house fire??! I don’t have enough hands!!”.
The way they interact with each other, despite them being different animals always gets me 😭
At first, the kitten seemed to prefer Kafei- the elder. We know he grew up with a cat so he was fully comfy with the kitten; Sheik, on the other hand had seen one for the first time and was jumping when this vibrating thing snuggled next to her. Albeith being 12, he’s still sharp as a tack and doesn’t fail to run after his baby brother whenever I sneeze or he looks at him funny 🤦🏽♀️ (playfully? He doesn’t attack..)
I have only few instances upon finding all three of them snuggling up together- but in pairs. He also loves Sheik, which he tend to prefer to sleep at night with. It’s so cute how they recognize each other- cat would be sleeping somewhere and the dogs come to smell his nose. (Prompted or unprompted by me going “it’s sheik! Hi sheik!” -insert name). Whenever one is going to the vet, the other two is also looking by the window waiting upon the return, where they come out to greet them (my heart!!)
Ofcourse there’s also little icks; kafei having a thing for peeing on the cat trees, having the cat wanting to sleep with me while having a hate for closed doors.. but I need it closed for the weeins to stay and not change beds. It’s also three whole beings to navigate and deal with; which is especially hard if you get overwhelmed. let’s say we go away- even if we take the dogs.. someone gotta go feed the cat. He also hates being alone for long periods 😅 (assuming because he’s a rescue).
Let’s just say I might keep it at two in the future.. but again the third wasn’t planned. The decade gap behind them is kinda wierd too, but it works; i’m so not ready for Majora to outlive his brothers though 😭.
