2023 reading’s Questionnaire

2023 reading’s Questionnaire

Good morning!

I found this originally as an Ask Game on Tumblr @ Moonshinemagpie ; and I thought it would be a really good one to answer foreshadowing 2023’s goals!
Or atleast start thinking about it

1. What are 2-5 already published fiction books you think you want to read in 2023?
Let’s see.. I’d like to start the year with “This time Next year”, as I never read a New Year fiction on New Year either 😅 “Love on the Brain“, “My Killer Vacation”, and probably also “The Wall of Winnipeg and Me” as I’ve seen so much Hype about Mariana Zapata!

2. What are 2-5 already published nonfiction books you think you want to read in 2023?
I only have one non-fiction on my shelf currently (which- mmh not now) and i’m reading the other, being true crime. Here’s a few from my Virtual Wanna Read that I Might get to in 2023? “Maybe you should talk to someone” and “I could pee on this: and other poems by cats”.

3. Any poetry on your TBR?
I’ve found that poetry isn’t really my thing- the only exception has been the poems that could be written by cats! Because I think those could be hilarious, as I recently adopted one.

4. Do you plan to read any genres you haven’t read much before?
Yes! That’s my one and only goal that I do have for 2023 right now 🙂 While Iknow there’s genres that I have no real interrest in, there’s so many that I haven’t truly explored yet.

5. What 2023 new releases are you most looking forward to?
I have a lot in my Virtual Wanna Read shelves, but nothing that I really keep a tab on – in fact, I never know when things get released. ever. 😆 I do look forward to any new Ali hazelwoods, but then again I haven’t read Love on the Brain yet..

6. Do you have any conceptual reading goals? E.g., I plan to read books on food history.
Nope, not for this time!

7. What languages do you plan to read in? Do you want to read anything in translation?
I plan to continue to read in both English & French – some translated in French, and some written in French.

8. Are there any reading challenges you want to try?
I don’t quite feel ready to jump on more complex challenges yet. I’ve done simple ones like #BeatTheBacklist and #TheAudiobookChallenge, but I don’t think i’m gonna partake in any this year. Maybe if I stumble onto interresting ones, maybe?

9. Are you organizing any reading challenges/events?
Again.. No 😅 I’m not one to organize stuff

10. If you’re more of a mood reader, what do you think your 2023 reading mood(s) will be?
I have no idea.. My moods aren’t really something that I can plan – though I wish I could!

11. How do you plan to keep track of your reading? E.g., goodreads, bullet journal, tumblr, etc.
I’ll keep strictly to Storygraph this year, but also I’ll have a list in my Bullet Journal where I will write all first 40 books of the year.

12. What’s your 2023 stance on rating/reviewing books?
Pretty much the same as it’s been; I always try to review all the books that I can. But it’s okay not to, if for some reason I don’t have anything to say about it or etcetera.

13. Do you plan to attend any author events?
Not that we get many in my small Canadian town, but also I don’t really have the time or means to travel to one for this time. It’s on my bucketlist however!

14. Do you plan to mostly buy or borrow your books? (Or be the unicorn who reads the books they already own?)
A good mix of everything: I do plan to read more on my shelves, which I’ve been pretty good at, and in fact there’s not much room on my unread right now. I know i’m gonna buy more as my birthday is coming up – but also I like to borrow from my library for times where my mood don’t quite fit what I have available on my own shelf xD

15. Any other reading you’ll do in 2023 that you want to recommend to folks? Newspapers, substack, favorite blog, etc?
I really like to read articles about pets – about behaviors, health, general stuff we can do better.. I’m always willing to talk about that any chance I get ahah!
[Animal Wellness Magazines, All About Cats, Daily Paws]

Do you have any plans already for your 2023 reads?

Iknow right? Even if you don’t care much about poetry.. it still feels like it’d be a nice book. Especially if you have cats.

  2. This seems like such a FUN tag! I loved seeing all the goals for 2023! Can you believe we are entering into another year? crazy beans. I am always drawn to the more unique challenges. If you like romance, you should look into the Romanceopoly challenge from Under the Covers Book Blog. Its basically playing monopoly but romance reading style.
