Swimming Lessons ~ Lili Reinhart ☆ Poetry Review

Swimming Lessons ~ Lili Reinhart ☆ Poetry Review

Good morning!

This year, i’ve been trying to push reading out of my comfort zone more, which include more poetry. However.. this will most probably be the last one that I’d read/review because if i’m being honest with myself, I don’t really enjoy poetry that much?

The good thing being that the way verses are put and everything, it did help me finding sleep at night — which for an insomniac is pretty great.

Goodread’s page

I had been attracted to that one for a while, always picking it up but deciding not to, until finally I caved and got it. I like the symplicity of the cover, it’s a really pretty book! It promised me young love, anxiety & depression aswell as heartbreak.

Unfortunately, the book was just fine for me- as for many others it seems– nothing in the collection really caught my eyes as really relatable you know? Like usually I’d have a few favorite poems that I just “!!!”.. but this hadn’t been the case. Again, I loved how some pages were devided by red ones and the simple art between the page were cute, but nothing more.

I have a few hypothesis as of why this might’ve not resonated with me: maybe if I would’ve picked it up in english, as sometimes the translation doesn’t do it justice- but then again, I feel like I have gone past the emotion portrayed in this.. the book has a more negative tone, someone who JUST got it’s heart broken & struggling.

While I’ve honestly became so much more happier; the days that I had been in the gutters are long gone for me, thanksfully. I would’ve probably enjoyed this better back when I was struggling with a relationship not working with one of my friends that I wanted to love so much..

Had you picked that one up? Had you enjoyed it?

    1. I havent tried novels in verse yet, so that might be different- but yeah 😅 we don’t need to read poetry, if we don’t enjoy that’s completely fine
