All tbr(s) counts… right ?

Good morning !

As you may know, I always devided my tbr of book owned (aka, thoses currently standing on my shelves) from the ones I don’t own and have crossed from other’s blog. [Physical tbr / Virtual want to read]

In the past, i’ve always picked books that I already owned; so therefore my physical tbr, OR books that had been provided to me from review requests or NetGalley.

Quite recently, this changed. Although I knew my mom was renting e-books from our library on her ipad, I’ve never really thought of doing so. See, the way she did it was via internet and as she struggled with it and asking for our help; I kind of went “erhh” and brushed it off as too much effort. 😂

Then I learned about Libby/Overdrive. I started using it as I wanted to try audiobooks, while however not wanting to subscribe and pay for them as I have no idea if i’d like it or not .. so that seemed pointless. I haven’t had a chance to try renting audiobooks yet; but I am however on my second ebook loaned, currently reading “My heart and other black holes”.

As a book blogger, this feel like it opened me a whole new world ! The fact that our library was even on the app first baffled me, but as I was looking through the books.. we have quite a nice selection ! I saw many books that was highly spoken of in the community, and that I recognize as not that “old” (2017-2018).

It even says that we have more than 16,000 titles from 122 different subjects !

Look at all thoses options !!

What started happening though .. is that I started ignoring my physical tbr once again, and started picking up my virtual wanna read instead 😂 But that’s not all bad, eh? Still counts as my “overall” tbr..

Let’s talk about our tbrs !

  • Do you divide thoses you own from thoses you don’t own aswell ?
  • Do you prefer one to the other, or do you generally pick from the overall like I started doing ?
  • Is there some books that we have in common ?

  1. I have three different TBRs! One for books I already own, one for books I definitely want to buy, and a third for books I might buy, but I’m not 100% sold on. At the moment I’m working through my ‘books I own’ TBR but if I’m in a real mood-reading mood and nothing on that list will satisfy it, then I’ll buy.

    1. Sounds like you have quite the system! Usually when I buy I don’t even consider what’s on my tbr ahahah 😂😂 just whatever looks good at the moment

  2. I divided my TBR on Goodreads into “want to read”, and “wtr owned”. I read from that, because it’s already overwhelming! 😅

    1. Ahah yeah 😅 my owned tbr actually isn’t too big, maybe 25 max. So when im not in the mood for any of them.. hahaha

  3. i loove libby! unfortunately my library doesn’t have a large audiobook selection (i really don’t like e-books), but i still use it almost every week! i usually put holds on popular books i have heard amazing things, but also to less known ones. i usually don’t divide them, as i put books i already own to my tbr and the audios are always an extra

    1. Aww, i haven’t really checked how much of audiobook mine has.. as I always push it and end up STILL not having tried any 😂

  4. My TBR is pretty much one huge list of everything I even think I might want to read. I should narrow that down 😉 Also I need to try Libby/Overdrive.

    1. Hahaha just one massive list! You should do the « down the tbr list » meme then! 😉 helps with cleaning And you may make someone else’s bigger hahaha

Ive had in mind to do a post about my libby’s first experience, but idk what to say yet xD

  5. For now my tbr is just books I own or have gotten copies to review, but I too divide by what I own and what I might check out, and libby is ah-may-zaaang lol

  6. I absolutely need to separate mine into owned and virtual TBR… I generally need to get my TBR on goodreads under control too lol, I haven’t gone through it properly since I started the account like 3+ years ago.

    1. Oh yikes 😂😂 yeah, I just knew about goodread when i started blogging, so a year ago. I generally quite like to have things ordered rather than a huge pile that you gonna fumble in to find something xd but thats just me!

  7. I think I’ve been using OverDrive since before my local library set it up to be Kindle-friendly, so for a few years now. it’s definitely super helpful since I don’t like paying for books when I don’t know whether I’ll like them and don’t currently have the space to amass a physical personal library! so I don’t have much of a physical TBR, at least in the sense that you do.

over the years I’ve reorganized my Goodreads several times, but currently my TBR is divided into three main (mutually exclusive) shelves: Read Next for those that I own / have access to (including library loans and ARCs), Want to Read for the ones that I’m interested in but don’t own, and Maybe Read for books that I’ve come across but haven’t decided yet if I really want to read them. (I also have a wishlist shelf, but that’s mostly for books that I’ve read and loved and want to buy a copy of, or my auto-buy authors.)

it definitely helps keep each shelf under more control and make it easier to find books, since I have literal hundreds of books on each shelf and don’t always make time to go through and sort them out 😅

    1. Wow yours are way more in dept than mine xD Though I do have an “arc shelf” and a “library shelf” (though library shelf isn’t exclusive) — but I jam my want to read and maybe read together, in my case.

I definately agree with you for wary of buying something in case I wouldn’t like it though ! it take me forever to settle on a book to buy XD So I quite like reading my virtual wanna read via libby. Now if I like it it’s easy to just go buy it, and im one to love rereading so that’s not a problem either!

  8. My TBR list is made up of solely books I want to read regardless of whether I own them or not. This looks like such an organised and great system though!

    1. Thank you ! It’s mainly because at first I only read thoses I owned, and any I would see on blogs or elsewhere that I may want to read would end up in the virtual want to read (although sometimes it’d be more like a maybe) — it all changed with Libby ahaha

  9. I only have one TBR, the one in Goodreads. I usually remember which books I have read but I also can check my Goodreads if I’ve read it before or not. It doesn’t have all the books I’ve read, unfortunately since I didn’t make my account until 2012, I think but it is very helpful.

    1. Yeah I can usually remember too! I sometimes clue in onto what i’ve read or not – mostly as I read the french copy and not the english one xD so I had no idea it was called like that.

  10. I love the library app! Living in Japan means that I don’t have the access to local books in my native language but Malaysia national library has a free app where you can borrow the books for free and I continuously use the app to the point that I was awarded the most reader award in 2016? 2017? lol

    1. Yeah, only problem is when none of the owned ones is actually what you feel like reading ahaha 😂 if you are a fellow mood reader. Then good thing libby exist!
