I am coming to you yet again with my second poetry book review, sent to me by the author herself. This poetry collection also turns around mental health, and I particularly love this little note from the author at the very beggining where she say that the purpose wasn’t to romantize it in any way, that the content of this collection could be possibly triggering for some people and that if that’s the case, she advice to go seek help. Because we don’t have to fight thoses alone.

Triggers; depression, Suicide (idealisation & mentions), Addictions, grief

 

I particularly love thoses collections who separate their poems in “themes” like it’s the case in this one. It’s also quite a good mix between the darker toned ones of how it feels like to live with that, aswell as hope filled ones. As of which, the latest we’re probably my favorites, just because i’m in the more stable part of my recovery; so I don’t particularly relate with the darker ones like I would’ve had in the beginning of it. While I do vaguely remember what it felt like, it’s harder to be in-sync with that amount of pain now.

Poetry around mental health will always be a soft-spot for me; as it does help. I was one to enjoy seeing how I was feeling portrayed, mostly in books. But while being someone who went through it, I am also the girlfriend of someone who’s currently suffering with it. So the little hopefuls and cheerfuls ones sometimes felt like little reminders of things I shall not forget for my own recovery, and sometimes feeling like ones I could read to my boyfriend like “My greatest love song”; bringing support, love and hope for a future.
