Blogging with Anxiety; ..What comes after?

Blogging with Anxiety; ..What comes after?

Good morning!

Having anxiety, there’s quite alot of things that goes through my mind.. alot of questions that maybe the general blogger without it might not actually think about.. but mainly this serie of posts is to try to find others like me and get their POV on the question.

Check out the other things i’ve covered in this little serie

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you stopped blogging?

One of my fear of taking a hiatus actually comes from being scared of never getting the urge to come back – which is a hobby that I plan to fight teeth and nails to keep, along with reading (which I talked about before). My blog is actually self-hosted, which means that I need to pay yearly with bluehost to keep this corner of internet my property.

Pretend I get, years from now, the urge to stop. Or if for a reason or another I can’t keep it; what happens? Do you just delete everything and stop paying immediately? Do you revert back to free wordpress, import everything, and keep it for memories sake (or choose to go the free WP way?)..

I feel like just deleting everything seems like the way to go- way less of a hassle.. but then what about all the heartfelt posts that I wrote?? 🤔 Though hypothetical, I don’t think I could just go with this path.

Not like I can imagine ever stepping out; even with blogging I do always have random overload of free time.. so what in hell would I do without it??

Have you ever considered this?
What’s your thought on the matter?

  1. I’ve taken 2 blogging hiatuses in my blogging journey. One in 2017, to take a break from everything. I’d basically cut cold turkey to rejuvenate myself after burnout. And then, I’d taken another hiatus in December 2020 to transition from Blogger to WordPress. That took a bit more time to come back because there were so many technical issues to fix. And at both times, I wasn’t self-hosted yet (I’m also through Bluehost), so I didn’t have to pay any fees. Now that I’m self-hosted, I don’t know what I’d do if I were to take another break.

    1. The self hosting part does make everything seems a bit harder, as there is an « impact » 😅 though I feel I could shove it under the rug easier as it’s one spend of money for the year, rather than paying monthly (even for those I might not use but need to pay that month anyway if it makes sense?)

  2. That’s honestly my biggest worry as well and I think maybe that’s why I never quit blogging? (Plus I enjoy it, even though I post less now and have taken breaks here and there.) I think I’ll probably continue paying for it if I can afford it, mostly for memories sake and also what if I DO come back to blogging at some point? I can’t imagine myself going to free WordPress or back to Blogger honestly and I’d hate to rebrand myself completely because some random spam site brought it and posted weird stuff.

    1. Ew would you imagine! That’d be awful.. I guess I could go back to free wordpress 🤔 but then the limited space for medias would make me so anxious! (Really the main issue i’d have) — but yeah that’d be an option too, unless major increases, I don’t pay that much for my website yearly.
