Library/Bookstore habits

Hello everyone !

Today I have another conversation post for you all ( .. am I annoying with thoses ? I hope not !! )

If you are like me, and I hope i’m not the only one, you have your own little kind of “rituals” every time you enter a bookstore or even a library ahah .. so I thought we could share thoses together today 😘

I’m usually using bookstores more personally, although now that I got a brand new library card just the other day, I shall go more often hopefully ! it’s not even that far from home so eeerh .. idk what’s wrong with me xD I just hope I can finish reading my current one I loaned before the due date..

My favorite one is always indigo chapters (which is our canadian equivalent of barnes & nobles, if you didn’t knew !) ; Although the french stuff is limited .. I just LOVE the little knick knacks & stationaries, I can’t help myself. 😳 So that being out of the way, I usually start by the knick knacks ahah.. going through with the stationnaries, baby stuff .. AND only after I make my way from the popular books in the middle of the floor to our little french section.

Like me, i’m sure you will feel this; this is where I can stay for. hours. and even then, I can get out of there with no books at all xD

Unlike most of you, however… i’m not judging my books from their covers [or not only the cover, anyway ..]. I skim the shelves, and if a title do attract my eye I will pick it up and read the back of it, then flip the pages and read a few sentences … go back to the back of it .. and basically it take ages 😂 Im so not someone who can just freely buy any book regardless of if i’d let it sit there or actually read it.. I wanna make sure I will read & like it. hence why I take so much time..

((Also .. at this point it’s just like i’m in a trance .. so. calm. Nothing in the world matters anymore .. Just books !!))

Also, fun fact; ANY. books. having dogs inside of it, such as dogs encyclopedias or what have you, I just NEED to stop and flip to the “Dachshund” page to read what it says of my breed.. I’ll then take a picture of the page and share it onto our fb group of local dachshunds parents xD

 Now let me know;

° Do you judge books by their covers ?

° Are you more libraries or bookstores ?

° Do you have a more “wierd” habit like me ?

° What’s your usual path inside that “store” ?

  1. I judge books by their blurb…if it sounds intriguing my curiosity is piqued and i just have to read it. Covers are nice but if you don’t get me at the blurb no matter how pretty the cover is i would not care. I am more bookstores because i hate time constraints on my books and i like to write inside them, plus if i happen to really like it i want a copy for myself. I start scanning the bookshop right from the door, i go through the hardback and paperback charts, and then scan every genre. when i am done i look at the stationary before i leave. I always buy something though..but it could be hours before i leave the store

    1. Yep same! First the title and/or cover attract me .. but if the blurb dont satisfy me it’s not going anywhere ..
Oh I hear you fir time constraint!! I need to read my remaining 40% in two days .. woops. And being a mood reader it can be hard to juggle 🙈

      Thanks for the comment! xx

  2. I like both bookstores and libraries. When I go to libraries I have a particular way on how to browse. I browse the new stuff first, then move onto mystery, then onto fantasy/sci fi and then off to YA and MG.

Bookstores, if it’s Powells I look at the stationery stuff and then move onto sci fi fantasy (I don’t explore much in Powells. It’s a very dangerous place to be) 😀

Barnes and Noble: I go to sci fi and fantasy, then off to YA

    1. Hehehe it is very dangerous indeed 🙈 last time mom kicked me out of the bookstore when I picked a second book!! Granted we were away from home and wanted to see something else but xD still, ahah

Thank you for sharing ! Xx

  3. Interesting discussion post. I go to libraries and charity shops more so than book shops. But I love being in all of them. I love the cooking section and the general fiction. I can browse and leave with nothing too! I just enjoy being there. I love that you picture the dogs. 👍😉
    Amanda.

    1. Heheh thank you!
I had it planned along with pictures of my finding of my dogs… but I got a moment and went eeeeeeh, idk… not sure it’s that great 😪 so I actually deleted them, but finally wrote the post like a month after ahah

  4. I have to admit that you will find me in a bookstore way more often than in a library. And I do judge books by their covers, a little bit. Althought I do give covers I am not a huge fan of a chance as well 😀 Also, I totally get you!! I love the stationary section even though I don’t need anything 😛

    1. I never know what i’d do with them .. but imma buy them nonetheless xD
sometimes, a plain cover can have an amazing story ! hence why I don’t judge 100% on it, heheh.

  5. Well, dunno if this is weird, but…
I tend to not go to bookstores, cuz I know i won’t buy anything there anyway. The books there are super expensive, and i’d rather buy them on my kindle.

When i go to the charity shop (books are usually £1-3), i would only buy a book that looks new. If it looks like it’s been hit by a truck, eaten then spat out, i won’t touch it.
Also, if a charity book is like £2, i have a sneaky look at the kindle version, and if i’ts going for £0.99, i will always choose that.

When i see a book with a nice cover, i search for it on goodreads and read the description, reviews… if it was positively reviewed by someone i know, i’m more likely to pick it up.

So yea, it does take ages… 😀

    1. hahaha “hit by a truck, eaten then spat out” .. our charity shop only has english books most times.. so if I want something in my language it’s not there I shall find it. (even if we are bilingual town .. id have better chance off fb market or yard sales if anything

  6. I love this post!

I definitely tend to go to bookstores more than the library – my usual route is new stuff, then YA and MG, then Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and comics last.

I try not to linger too long, but you know how it is once you start browsing…

    1. Haha ohh yes.. that’s why I usually go when I have NOTHING I shall do afterward 🙈 I still feel kinda eh for my mom afterward though.. specially if I took ages and havent gotten anything, yet she had to put up with me 🙊

Thank you for your comment! Im happy you liked my post xx

      1. Oh yeah, I feel SO sorry for my mum! I usually try to go alone (though that is the most dangerous game), or with my best friend or boyfriend ‘cause they’re almost as bad as me 😂

        1. haha I snag my godmother when I can the rare times she comes aswell ! She can also stay there for ages so it aint so bad; but sadly I got no one else and eh.. I dont drive yet soo ..

  7. im terrible and always judge books by their covers, its what draws me in.
however if something comes to me highly reocmmended i’ll do what you do and have a flip through and figure out if its for me
