The corner shop in Cockleberry Bay ~ Nicola May☆ Review Request

** Disclaimer: I did received a copy of this book from the author for review purpose. This has in no way, shape or form affected my opinion on it **

Helloo, So I have another review for you guys !

I first heard about this book upon reading Chocolate Page’s cover reveal, and I was just SO. Excited. and wanted to read that book asap ! I then was contacted by Nicola May on my twitter if I wanted to review it, which I couldn’t believe it was happening, and of course I said yes !

So here it is, my review of Nicola May’s book, “The corner shop in Cockleberry bay”. Coming out on April 9th, by Nowell publishing.

Ps: this book actually took me longer to read for it’s not the english I am used to in my country; so I did had a few confused moments as of what a specific wording meant. I needed to take my time to read more slower, but I did reached the end !

My review;

4 / 5 – Loved it! But had a bit of a trouble understanding, and not sure if i’d reread. Would definately recommand, however!

✘ Upon reading the synopsis for the very first time, I was eager to read this story with a dachshund in it!

✘ It’s my first time reading something with a wiener dog as a “character”, so I was wondering if it was gonna be used more like an accessory, or if he would be constant and more like a real character. Very pleased to see how present he is in the book so far !

(can we talk about his name also ?? Hot the hot dog, love it !)

✘ I gotta say, I really feel Rosa with how she’s more of a loner, feeling how getting close to somebody is evidently demanding to be destroyed.. as you never truly know, do you?

However! I love the girl for girl support being shown. Hell yes!

I really liked this book! Even if I struggled at times to understand some wordings or how the sentences were made, as it’s not the english I am used to.

It took me a while to get into, but proved my fears wrong as I went forward. I got excited to read my book before bed and when I did, I didn’t wanted to stop reading. Also had my mind wrapped around it and thinking about it quite often.

I kept making “realizations” or bets of what X could be, and felt a good range of emotions throughout the book. Upon reaching the middle of it, I regained some kind of faith in love; not only for myself, but SO wanted to for Rosa aswell!! (Which may be a bit wierd hahah).

I loved the spiritual side of two of our characters and the ending was perfect; leaving me in tears at 3am and got us all of our questions answered!

  1. Thank you for linking up to my blog with this post Kristina. I am so glad that you read, reviewed and most importantly enjoyed Nicola’s book. My review is out today too, and like you I loved Hot the little dog. Nicola is fab at bringing emotion out in her writing, for the character and the reader. Nice review.

    1. yes ! I’ll reach out to others of her work, maybe after practicing reading english a bit more however heheh..

  2. Yay for reading a book where a daschund is in it! It totally fits with your blog kind of theme. And I’m all for books where the female characters are all supporting each other. We definitely do need more of that in literature ^.^

    1. right ?!
That’s mainly because of that I got it to review, heheh .. could you tell I jumped on it? Felt like a dream, couldn’t believe that hahah throw them my way, any dachsund books, I WANT. im sold.

  3. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with a dachshund in it. This makes me really want to now. I do love dogs and even better when they’re in books. Plus I love the name for the dog. I’m going to have to check this out at some point.

    1. yes !! that was a very nice move on her part, hehe.. and i’m so happy how he did behave like his breed; and not just any kind of dog, you know ?
