Dinner at the night library ~ Hika Harada ☆ Book review

Helloo!

January started on such a good note for me- 6 books; knocking prompts for my challenges and all being 5 & 4 stars reads… and then my first book of this month..

I bought this one last year, under the pretence that I absolutely love Japanese Fiction; iguess there’s had to be one I didn’t liked that much in the mix (can’t enjoy ALL the books, unfortunately)

At first, it was nice; the concept of the night library being open at night, with collections of only deceased authors. There’s a Café on the top floor who, as the title says, offer dinners based off book descriptions of food. Genius, love that.

However.. the “strange occurances” that threatened the closing of the library wasn’t that big of a deal. Sure, it meant a long process ahead to monitor said collections but overall- I don’t understand. While we did find out who the mysterious owner was, the questions at the end of the synopsis wasn’t answered! It just ended abruptly!

Reading other’s reviews.. it is all leaning towards the same thing; though usually I tend to like “unlikeable” books, this one has very rare 4+/5 stars reviews. It would’ve been better staying a slice of life novel instead of incorporating this “mysterious occurance” blowed out of proportion to threaten to close it down.

” Talk with a person about the books they read, and you can tell what sort of person they are.” (…) “Then you take a look at their bookshelves. A person’s desires are crammed into their bookshelf. Look at that and you can tell what kind of person they want to become.”
