Do reading at night helps you sleep?

Do reading at night helps you sleep?

Good morning!

One of the most known habit when trying to sleep is probably reading before bed; for those of us who do, does it helps?

Now i’m a full blown insomniac here, even medications suppose to drowse you (benadryl, gravol) doesn’t even work on me 😅 One time it’d work, but not the next.

Nighttime is usually my spot to read, just because I need the quiet that the night gives me to concentrate properly. However- I could read the whole thing and it wouldn’t lull me to sleep either. Especially fantasy, while I don’t cross that genre often, when I did, I ended up more wired that anything else.

I’ve found True Crime collections to me soothing, though. Maybe it has to do with the fact i’ve trained my brain to relax with it – as I’ll mainly watch True Crime youtube videos while playing my switch, so maybe my brain is associating the two? But that’s the only time where it helps me sleep. I’d finish one story, sometimes not even completely finish it, and i’ll be good to go can’t keep my eyes open.

Do reading help your sleep? If not what does?
Is there a genre more helpful than others for you?

  1. Reading puts me to sleep lol 😆 depending on which book and how much I’ll read. Podcasts and TV also put me to sleep.

    1. Hah! I do need to try podcast more… maybe thatd help. They say concentrating help drifting to sleep rather than « just relax »

  2. Reading definitely helps me, well, OK, not horror or something else scary, but a good manga or a fun book that makes me laugh or feel good, that is fine!

    1. Yes I certainly feel the genre makes a difference! Some are more doozing-friendly than others 😅
