English VS French covers

While it’s true that a beautiful cover is never what make me decide alone upon if I read a book or not, a “cheaply” made cover is sadly enough to pull me away of even reading it.

When browsing my libby app, the constatation that there’s wasn’t much e-books in french to begin with, came with the realization that most- if not all of them has a poor looking cover 😰 With more examination, it sadly seems to be quite the norm with french book – specially thoses coming from Quebec.

To give you an idea, here’s what doesn’t particularly get my eyes that I see quite often; First an odd image with a white bottom where the title is (I’ve seen other colors too, but in the exemple it’s white) aswell as what looks like a poorly photoshopped one 😅 with a fullscreen image with the title written across it.

Then, upon close inspection – I started to wander on my shelves. As you can see, there’s clearly similar looking covers all over.

 

Thoses are my recent un-read ones – Currently reading “En route vers nowhere”; I specially like “L’après Jerome” ‘s cover.

 

And thoses are my read ones. except from the three on the bottom right, all of them are pretty simple and around the same colors.

 

While some are still really pretty, this realization kinda pains me – as we’ve all seen the gorgeousness of some english covers!
