Holiday themed reads; What’s your opinion on them?

Halloween is passed; which means it’s now the start of the holiday season.. even in my Café, we just broke off the new peppermint drinks and other seasonal stuff right on November 1st!

As of which; i’ve seen some of you guys broke off the holiday themed romance reads on Goodreads before October was even over, ahah! So I was quite curious — Yay or Nay for holiday reads? Do you read them?

I’m gonna be honest, this is one of the type of books that I really only started seeing since I’ve joined the blogosphere! Before then, I never really paid much attention – then again, I never have been the one to read books according to the seasons. Maybe I should try that sometime!

Although my birthday is only a couple of days after Christmas day, this isn’t quite a jolly month for me. When I was a child, before any fights broke off, the big family on my dad’s side would all gather at my grandma’s and we would open gifts, hear stories, have a Christmas Supper, kids would play around as the adults would drink and talk..

Long story short; this got to an end when I was about 12 years old and mom started to be sick, which was also the same time we moved 3hours away. Driving at this time of year is particularly dangerous because of snow storms; so Christmas aswell as my birthday and new year are just like any regular days for us now — Myself with my parents alone, we’d drink a few drinks, open gifts and play a few games of wii bowling and that’s it. Most of the time myself or my dad would work on the eve’s of anyway so we don’t bother do anything too too fancy (and yet again, weather being an asshole and we don’t wanna get killed on the way)

Not sure if it’s because of that or not, but i’m not too too fond of anything “Holiday” themed now. I’d watch a few Christmas Movies because mom really REALLY wanna watch some 😂 but that’s pretty much it, I never really considered reading anything like that before.

Your turn!

  • Are you a fan of Holiday/Christmas books or movies?
  • If so, what are your favorite ones?
  • Any specific plot points that you are a sucker for in thoses types of books?
  • Do your family have any holiday celebrations? I’d be curious to know them!

  1. I went through very much the same thing moving away from my family with my extended family with my parents and the holidays definitely got quieter. I can take our leave holiday themed books and films and such unless they take place in the North Pole even if it’s only for a little while like Elf. Then I’m all over it!

    1. While im happy not being alone in this, i’m sad that you have to go through this too ..
Ah, I see! So more of the santa ones :p make sense.

  2. I am not really a seasonal reader at all, more of a mood reader. So I kind of read holiday themed books all year round and don’t really care 😛 But I once read A Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve and it made so much atmospheric sense that I understand why people are seasonal readers!!

  3. I don’t read many Holiday/Christmas books/movies because I’m not usually in the mood for them. I might read few of them if they’re free in kindle. I don’t think I can name in that I really enjoyed. The only book I can name is the one I read during October is Halloween Boo by Sarah Spade and I gave that only three stars.

We usually celebrate Christmas at my grandparent’s house. I love the food but the only bad thing is I have to deal with my cousins from my dad’s side of the family. It’s not like there’s any fighting or anything but they don’t talk to me or my sisters and we don’t talk to them. They just sit there, quietly judging us and even their boyfriends might talk more. I’m sad that we’re not going there this year since my grandparents are travelling but at least I don’t need to see my cousins.

    1. yikes.. yeah that’s basically what my dad’s family is like ! I find it the saddest that it’s not even that we don’t have family.. we do — but they just don’t give a damn, you know?
My mom’s side of the family is pretty closed-knitted.. but then there’s the distance. it’s only 3hours driving but in winter time here you can leave and it’d be fine and halfway you’d have a storm. so that’s not the safest.. you can’t guarantee anything.
