It’s Spring Cleaning time! 💫 My tips & how I did mine

Good morning!

If you’re in the northern hemisphere like I am, spring and the good weather is finally slowly making it’s way! ☀️

I don’t usually do anything particular at this time than my regular sweep & mop, but this year I got wierdly motivated! Not to help it was really due as we’ve all been sick for weeks now..

The way I decided to proceed was to do room per room; open the windows (best as I can with a kitten around), broom it overall, mop it, to then move the big & medium sized items to broom and mop underneath to give a big ol’ finale mop at the end. Final step of the room to clean the windows.

Lots of steps, but understand my now 9 years old male dachshund has a nack of peeing on things 😬.. hence the extra steps of moving stuff, spray some pet odor neutralisant, and mop 1-2times over it.

The living room being the biggest task in our smaller house, as he also peed on the cat trees (both of them- one for eating and one for resting), I choosed to wash their base with the same pet odors neutralizer and leave them outside to air out a bit making sure not to let the said dog out.. or he was gonna pee on it again 😂

Reminders;

There’s no rules to cleaning; listen to your limits. Not all things need to be done in one day if you can’t or even don’t want to. Bring as many people to help too if you want, Turn it into a cleaning dance party!Stay hydrated and for the love of god, take breaks! I’m currently drafting this as I go through cleaning the house.. 😂

If you can, use environment-friendly and pet-friendly products. I sadly don’t have any available, though white vinegar is my favorite for floors.

Now onto a few tips onto what more you can do:

* Include the pets, too!

  • Clean their food & water bowls, although it should be included in our regular cleaning, it’s still a good thing to do.
  • Go through their toys and throw away the unsalvageable ones, or give away the ones they don’t use anymore/never really liked.
  • While refilling their food & treat cabinets, filter the little grains at the end of bags, and make sure to clean the bucket before placing the new food in. Same as with the toys, might be good to discard anything that they’re refusing to eat.
  • If applicable, brush and/or bathe them too; I personally wash my dogs every month, before I place their fleas and ticks treatment.

* Don’t forget the electronics!

  • Delete the apps, pictures or documents that you don’t need anymore.
  • Back up any important data onto a separate drive in case anything happens. (Like pictures or documents you really don’t want to lose)
  • Following the second point, a good reformating never hurt, especially for older models of computers- we did this a number of times on our dinosaur desktop.
  • For extra securities, maybe go through changing your passwords for all accounts — recommended every 90days

Have you done your spring cleaning yet?
