Kind of a big deal ~ Shannon Hale ☆ Audiobook Review
Good morning!
I have now exceeded my goal I had set for the #AudiobookChallenge2022, this being my 3rd Audiobook of the year 😄
The only thing that’s dissapointing me a bit, is that this format don’t really allow me to take note of good quotes- which appear none wrote them off goodreads either, as I usually physically come back to the said line after i’m done my reading to write it somewhere.
Gave me quite a hard time trying to get the quote right..
5 / 5 stars ⭐️
Having her dream of becoming famous blown up in her face, Josie just can’t accept her failure and come back home- or even admit it to her boyfriend (that she used to say everything to), by fear that he wouldn’t love her anymore. Forcing herself to flee and avoid everything, still holding onto her high school self and refusing to grow up.
I LOVE the way reading is portrayed in this book; how she literally get inside the world.. and realize how good of an escape it actually is. But through her adventures, she actually do get to think & face what she might’ve not wanted to admit before.
I especially enjoyed the mid-book realization; no matter what happens, we can’t relive the past- and people will always grow up and change in their own way. Josie got to see all the things that got said to her but didn’t registered; how it was time for her to let go of this facade and embrace what had to be done.
I have a deep love for coming-to-ages stories; where the protagonist learns the lessons somehow along the way on their own, and everything ends up perfectly as it should be. In a happy ending ❤️ They do be making you believe in a happier times, aswell as giving you hope- very much needed in this world. All my stars!
At first, I had been wondering why it had been listed as a fantasy.. but understood in the end- I loved how it intensified throughout the story, making it easier for my brain to imagine. Having it as an audiobook really helped too!
« did the characters ever get what they want? (..) In the musicals Josie really loved, the protagonists didn’t get what they thought they wanted; they got something entirely different & unexpected- and maybe better than before. Better, because through the course of the story, a character changes. (..) So what they wanted changed »
« As long as she refused to let her life end up as a tragedy, there was always hope. »

Great review as always! I am not exactly the biggest fan of audiobooks as I LOVE to torture my poor eyes by reading eBooks lmao.
I love Magical Realism, and this seems like a must-read to me! Thanks for pinging it on my radar <3
Ahah fair!
Yess absolutely, hope you’d enjoy ❤️
