Let’s talk Bookish ➙ Buying books with intentions?

Good morning everyone!

As i’m writing my posts a week prior, we’ll again be slightly late.. So this time we’ll be doing the Apr 11th prompt; Do you buy books randomly or do you think about what to buy? How do you decide which books to buy vs which books to borrow or just save for later? For books at the top of your TBR, is your go-to buying a book or do you check your library first? What book formats do you own most of—physical books, ebooks, or audiobooks?

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @Eternity Books and co-hosted by Aria @Book Nook Bits and Dini @dinipandareads! I’m honestly pretty good with my buying books that I don’t need to go on buying bans, and I don’t request ARCs either so.. I’ll cave in as I see my unread shelf going down; I do in fact own more printed than anything else. I rarely ever buy ebooks, just a few french books off amazon as they’re Quebec authors that my bookstore doesn’t carry- the rest of ebooks & audiobooks I loan over libby.

Now as with everything else; picking what I read, how I sort my shelves.. it’s all mood based 🙈 Some books, like Ali Hazelwood & Ruth Ware are direct buys- and sometimes I get hyped over specific books, like i was with Under the surface. For the rest, I just browse my way and see where my mood gets me. I see SO many books that i’ve heard of online, and I somewhat knows which book I had put on my virtual TBR (of over 1000 books mind you..) while others might be new discoveries.

I read the synopsis first, maybe a couple lines at random and look at how big the prints is; if it speaks to me, i’m buying it. if i’m not sure if im in the mood.. i’ll put it back. I also like for my hauls to be varied as I never know when my mood is gonna switch: fic/non fic, en/fr, etc. For sure if the prints is too small or the book is too big, i’ll definately try to get it via ebook instead. I can’t read small prints and big books scares me.

When picking what to read i’ll first check what I have on hand, sometimes I crave ebooks VS print so i’ll check my libby for something interresting. sometimes it take me days to figure what I wanna read- i might buy a book off amazon from a quebec french author instead or give up and pick one of my prints.

So far in late 2024/2025 i’ve bought 16 books; with only 6 remaining unread! So far i’ve read all prints but two ebooks, only 14 unread prints left in total so i’ll be able to get book shopping soon!
