Let’s talk Non-Fiction!

Good morning!
You might have seen it on the blogosphere, or maybe you did one yourself, November was āNon-Fictionā month! Now iām quite late here šĀ but to be fair Iāve never really been one to choose non-fiction, so better late than never eh!
Ā
Now, my idea of non-fiction was quite wierd.. you see, in my mind, Non-fiction shall mostly be Biography or Auto-biography. As you could probably tell, boy was I wrong! ahah, another thing that being a book blogger teached me about genres.
Since becoming a blogger, Iāve put some books on my tbr (and virtual wanna read) that is Non-Fiction; as of which I never wouldāve guessed beforehand that I wouldāve wanna read! Here they are ;
Ā
1- Notes on a nervous planet [owned] (goodreads)
Companion novel to āReasons to stay aliveā that I reviewed earlier in the year. The first one made me realize some things about my own anxiety, so iām eager to see what the second one holds.
2- Camgirl (goodreads)
Since working a year in a sexshop, the industry and how things really are beyond what the society thinks of it has became something iām interested in.
3- Twas the nightshift before christmas (goodreads)
Iām an absolute lover for tv shows like āuntold stories of the ERā and things like that, so when I saw on another blog that something like that was a thing? SIGN ME UP!
4- Remember this when youāre sad: Lessons learned on the road from self-harm to self-care (goodreads)
Since iām struggling with mental health too, Iāve became interested to pick up that kind of reads. but not the books āself-helpā where it clearly comes from someone who DONāT have it, you know, I want something real ā a real person sharing their tips and what theyāve been through.
5- (Dont) Call me crazy (goodreads) & Life inside my mind (goodreads)
Same reason as above; but this time multiple authors coming together with different mental illnesses.
6- The curse of Oak Island: The story of the Worldās Longest treasure hunt (goodreads)
My dad loves things like that and we watch The curse of Oak Island all together. In fact, Oak island isnāt that far from us, just one province over!! My parents went to visit last summer, but I didnāt went with them (if I wouldāve had known.. darn) ā I kinda added this one thinking itād be a great gift for him.
7- Breaking up is hard to do.. but you couldāve done better (goodreads)
Something I enjoyed alot aswell was reading the āfmlā posts growing up.. which is what this sounds like ā but all in the theme of breakup
8- Walking with sausage dogs (goodreads)
A manās struggle with raising kids AND a dachshund ā need I say more? š
9- The last walk: Reflections on our pets at the end of their lives (goodreads)
I found this one while scrolling goodreads one night.. Like many others, Iāve loved and unfortunately lost beloved pets in the past ā and while I donāt want to, I know the two who saved my life will pass through there too one day.
Ā
Wow! This list took way longer that I wouldāve had thought to gather; and itās a surprise that I have a full ten of them! But as we can see, non-fiction can swallow a whole different range of topics.. Take that, younger me xD
Ā
Nowās your turn!Ā
- Do you enjoy Non-fiction reads, or were you weary of it like me?
- What kind of topics do you love to read non-fictions about?
- Have you discovered any new ones lately?
- Based on the themes covered here, do you have recs for me that youād think Iād enjoy?
I love nonfiction but I tend to read history books, sometimes biographies, I’m reading one about Mr. Rogers this month and I’m so excited lol, you’ve got some super intriguing books on your list!
See i’m not one for History or biographies personally, ahah — But hey, good for you that you’re excited! Hopefully you’ll like it xx
I love nonfiction but like anything else you have to be interested in the subject- yet there’s so much you can pretty much find something about anything.
I read Notes on a Nervous Planet earlier this year and really enjoyed it. It’s a good place to start!
Yeah, you are definately right!
which idk why younger me didn’t realized that until I became a blogger, ahaha xD
Ohh that’s good to hear – hope i’d love it too !
You have some really interesting books in your tbr that I have never even heard about! I added Camgirl and Twas the Nightshift Before Christmas to my tbr, they seem so different from anything else I have read
Right?! I thought so too!
Who knew non-fiction can be fun? š I didnāt, ahah ā the same author also have a prequel of twas the nightshift before christmas, iāve been told it would be better to read it beforehand but that one also went « too muchĀ Ā» on the first novel for their liking.. so I personally choosed to ignore their tip
I think I’ll do the same and just read twas the nightshift before christmas, it sounds like such a cool book.
Most of the non-fiction books that have read have been more the serious, bittersweet or heartbreaking type, so it will be nice to try and read a different kind of non-fiction
I agree!
I find that I love my non-fiction to not be *too serious* nor objective. like- give me that “Okay – Let me tell you this story about X” feeling!
I don’t read much non-fiction either, but I have found SOME that have interested me–even a couple of biographies and autobiographies. I read a middle grade graphic novel biography of Ruth Bader Ginsburg—that one was just my speed. LOL!
Nice!
Oof hah that sounds wierd to me ā like, wierd format for that type of books xd but then again they have manga classics so mh.. š¤
I sometimes read nonfiction, though I don’t always blog about it since nonfiction reviews get little traffic or interaction on my blog. I read a lot of history nonfiction, but have enjoyed Caroline Criado Perez’s Invisble Women this year, which discusses how gaps in data negatively impact women’s lives. It’s really a powerful and an eye-opening book.
To be honest, I think thatās the case for most of the reviews š ahah although thatās not my cup of tea, im happy you enjoy thoses!
I rarely read non fiction Kristina! The only one I’ve read and loved is Becoming by Michelle Obama!
Ah, Glad to know you enjoyed the only one you’ve read!
while i’m not too sure what that book is about, I’m not too too interrested by that one š
I love non-fiction – but mostly non-fiction that is very science-based, with lots of studies presented (and I especially love books that manage to make physics seem like so much fun). But I do read memoirs too, although most of my non-fiction reading tends to be more sciency (is that a word?)
I see !
my soft spot seems to be about mental health & Medical (wether human or animals) — In the one i’m currently reading right now, he give us lots of facts about the psychological side of anxiety VS the “mad world” we live in.
