Mini-Reviews ☆ Slingshot & If you’re out there

Good morning!

It’s time for mini-reviews, I don’t do thoses a lot (last time was in 2020) but ithought it was quite fitting for thoses two as I don’t have much to say for one, while the second I read in french- and i’m not too keen onto making french book reviews on their own -though this was a translation of an eng. one-

Trigger warning; Teacher/student relationship

I still don’t know how I feel about this book.. I opted to rate it 4stars instead of three on Goodread because I loved the love between Wade & Gracie, aswell as Beth as a character & her father’s action in the fight. However, even if the relationship wasnt “real” and the teacher had nothing to do with it, Gracie was still quite intense into loving her biology teacher. Even when she was with Wade, it was still a constant thing in the book; she did mean stuff to her teacher because he had a fiancée, and she kept reffering to him as a soulmate.

It still made me quite uncomfortable and i’ve thought of DNFing it & unhauling the book; though I ended up liking some things in the end.

The thriller part of the story began quite late, at the halfway point of the book – everything before had been quite boring.. mainly having Zan going through life still hooked up to Priya and not understanding why she’s acting like she is after moving and not giving anyone any news at all. Though I would 100% doubt and look for clues like she did, the things she ended up giving importance to didn’t really made any sense?? I did like how from this point on we got some notes from Priya’s diary, but it would’ve been better to have had them from the beginning instead of randomly after reading the first half.

I loved Logan, and specially his interactions with Bee & Dolly. Zan’s family was also very loving and nicely pictured, even as a divorced family with both her parents being very concerned about her wellbeing; Note that I have no experience with divorced families, so having a positive picture was nice to read. The reading was pleasurable enough to keep me going and not DNF it, but not good enough to mark me or wanting to reread it/keep the book.

Have you read thoses?

    1. Imean- im usually reading more adult thrillers.. so im used to more intense iguess? The fact this seems to be YA thriller and less intense made it kinda meh. I did like the ending and general feel of it though!
