Well folks,
That’s not the post I thought we were gonna have.. if you’ve been following, you might remember Sheik had been struggling. She had spent 5 days on oxygen and antibiotics at the ER just about a month ago. She passed in my arms, on August 24th at about 11pm.

While it’s never an easy decision, when it’s time, you’ll know.
I wasn’t ready to lose my gorgeous girl. Facts was, I spent a fortune on her already to be at the same point.. I could’ve put her on oxygen but what comes next? We tried antibiotics by mouth and IV, aswell as an inhaler, and nothing relieved her. We were bound to have another episode eventually.
It came so suddently- she was fine, playing with her ball, went to a weenie meet-up.. and all of a sudden I came home from work and she’s shivering with troubled breathing. I could’ve put her back on oxygen; but realistically, now what? antibiotics don’t work as it was chronic, I gave her alot of her inhaler with time to hopefully have it work and get her out of her episode, it didn’t work.. I didn’t felt like it was fair to have her go through that, on top of the 4months prior of antibiotics & 5 days in the ER. Not to say, I paid maybe $10,000 already all together, and nothing will guarantee to give me my girl back. One day or another she’ll have another episode, her lungs will fill out with mucus with noway to clear it out.
Life got so much simpler with only one dog; no more vet appt for her heart every 6months, no more medication twice a day at 10:30..but needless to say i’d much rather had my dog than the money. 11 years is alot to spend with someone, human or animal – and we got lucky to extend her life once already at only 2 years old.
Picture taken at the last wiener meet she got to attend, Aug 22nd. Sheik on the left, Kafei on the right.
She was so different than her brother; full on energy, ball-loving and independant. The one of the two with perfect recall and coming easily when you called her. My first female dog, my baby girl, despite not being my firstborn.
Thankfully her brothers remains; Kafei a year her elder & Majora their very younger cat brother. The dynamic will completely shift, as she was Kafei’s bodyguard, always glued together. The energic one, while Kafei’s more quiet. Silver lining she didn’t had to experience life without her brother. She went one last time see her friends at a dachshund event, had her last good day.
Our neigbor’s daughter-in-law had made us this painting a few years ago, with the pawprint we took of them. It will be cherished in this trying time, ofcourse with the many pictures we have of her.
Just like for us humans, you just never know.. she had mitral valve disease, and yet it’s not her heart that cost my girl’s life. I can say I have absolutely no regrets, I gave her everything I could. We went down every possible alleys, but even medicine didn’t know how to help her.. it’s unfair.
Might her brothers stay few more years with us, I know I’ll mourn her forever- one of the hardest thing i’ll have to do. I’ve lost family pets before, but it’s my first time losing one of my own and having to take the decision. I’ll see her on the other side someday ❤️

Kris, I am so extremely sorry to have heard that. It’s never easy to say goodbye to one of your babies and I know that Sheik was so loved by you. Every photo you shared of her was so precious and she looked like such a lovely dog 💜💜💜
Holding you and the other pets in my heart and thoughts.
Thank you ❤️
