My romance genre pet peeves
Good morning,
I’m not one to be bothered by much- mainly all the most hated tropes, I have no problem with. Though quite recently, remotely all the romances that I picked up had this in them.. which I just HATE so much 😬
Most people aren’t a fan of Insta Love or Love triangle; personally they never really bothered me.. Insta Love is one I could see myself fall in/have fell on it before. As for the love triangle, sure i’d get a favorite one out of the party involved- though it might switch sides as the MC does 😅
There’s just one trope that I have quite some problem with.. the Forbidden Love. But not all of them included- I’m just effy when it comes to huge gap age difference, especially when one of the two is a minor under 19, aswell as existing family bonds. Iguess it can pass if it’s a recent enough from marriage and they hasn’t been raised together nor has any blood linked, or maybe they don’t know yet that their parents are together .. but it still wierds me out.
However, it isn’t much of a trope that’s been angering me lately.. It’s the little “plot twist” around 70/80% of the book where the relationship suddently STOPS and something happen that makes you doubt they’re gonna be together in the end. Somehow I picked like three consecutives books with that in it ðŸ˜
just- WHY?! everytime I need to go peak at the end to see if they get back together.. i’m a big fan of “LOVE WINS“, so this is a no-go for me. Almost making me throw my book at the wall whenever this happens ahah– fortunately for me though, and for the books, All of them did got back together in the end.. so no throwing of books as of now, but still.
Related; “But they can’t be together now” effect.

OMG yes I can’t with big age gaps when one of them is really young because it just creeps me out. And third acts break ups are so predictable and annoying and yeah they make me question things too and I like it sometimes but I hate it when it happens consecutively
Right? It’s just generally not a good vibe..
Urhh- I need my happy ever ending in my love books; this is why I read them! 👀 🤣 Don’t get me wrong, all 3 ended up in my fave couples ive read this year.. but I always HATE to have that turn down on me at the last minute. Noo!! Can’t do that to me! ahaha i’m just happy they turned out to be okay in the end, so iguess they have a pass
