My troubles with audiobooks

Good morning!
One thing i’d love as my goal is to be able to read between each formats- maybe even read multiples at the same time! However, there’s a few things that I have some troubles with..
1) I mainly take my audiobooks off of my library’s Libby app because im cheap, and it always takes me so much time fiding one! So much so, that I end up giving up in the process π
Ofcourse being from the library, those I want are not always available..For exemple i’ve been loving to audio-read the love hypothesis; but there’s a line of over 5weeks!
Not to help that I don’t have a specific mood i’m searching for, most cases, I end up trying so many! I feel like i’m picky on the voice, some accents gives me troubles, etc.
2) Do I retain this information? What I love about them is the fact that I don’t have to choose between gaming & reading- I can just do both! Either simming, farming simulations, or even some mobile game to keep me occupied while listening.. At the first of every book, i’m scared i’m not gonna retain the information π
I usually get the relief that I do about halfway- when I can remember the storylines, plotlines, characters.. after every listen, before getting to sleep, I kinda try to do a recap of “okay what happened in the book”. I feel like this also bleed from the time way back before this blog where I couldn’t even finish a book as i’d get SO lost.
I feel like audiobooks are great for rereading! You know the story already, so that makes me less anxious of no. 2; however i’m a bit sad that I can’t take favorite quotes that easily in audio π nor knowing how to write the characters name properly.
It’s a work in progress, I hope it’s one of those skills that gets better as you use it- especially a game of memory. And yeah having a specific mood or genre you wanna read would surely help my search!
How do you usually consume your audiobooks?
Do you also faces some troubles conserning this format?
Did anything helped you with it?
I still struggle with audiobooks most of the time because I get distracted very easily and unfortunately, my brain doesn’t retain all the information it should when I’m doing multiple things at once. My favourite way of consuming them is by immersive reading, where I have the ebook or physical book to follow along with. This usually makes my reading experience so much more enjoyable. I also find audiobooks particularly helpful when reading non-fictionβI still need to be doing nothing else to distract me, but it makes reading NF so much more fun (for me)!
Yes I have yet to try that one! Sometimes I just dont feel like.. braining you know? I wanna read but without the brain effort ππ
While some activities I couldn’t do, like driving or cleaning where I still need to keep track of what im doing/going – ithink audioreading would be too much. Mindless gaming though? Perfect!
I need to do something while I listen audiobooks or my thoughts will go wild and I forgot to actually listen, so I usually listen when I walk and when I clean my apartment. I use Everend to listen audiobooks as my library decided to take itself out of Libby for some reason.
Oh thats rude! Happy that works for you. I feel like with those activities i’d end up either being too much in the book that I end up like 3hrs away from home- OR too concentrated in what im doing to concentrate on the book ahah
I love audiobooks but I don’t think I could listen and game at the same time!
That’s fair. Sometimes just laying and listening remains the best!
I honestly struggle with audiobooks most of the time because I can’t seem to stay focused and do other things at the same time. It actually takes me a lot longer to listen to a book than read it myself… And I’m also picky with the voices and accents, which can make or break an audio experience for me. I’m trying to listen to more audiobooks this year, although I’m not invested enough to actually pay for them so it’s mainly any audio ARC I can get approved for on Netgalley. π
Ouh yes that also works π€
I am learning through my audiobook journey. haha. I couldn’t do it at all before because I would just not pay attention. Something clicked in the fall and now I’m devouring them. Of course, it’s like training your mind. The more you use it the better it will be? I am doing it the most when I’m putting down my kiddo for a nap. He’s teething and most of the time, I have to lay with him. That’s a good chunk and I can only focus on the book. Re-reading is the best for sure!!
Oh yes thats amazing! Mindless mobile games/repetitive or just laying eyes closed works too
