Non-romantic tropes in books that I love!
Good morning!!
Let’s talk about tropes today, but non-romance, as i’ve tackled thoses on here already..
(see: Fave Tropes / What I like to see in my Romances / Favorite kind of romance books)
I gotta admit I did needed to search for some tropes to write this, as ofcourse everything that I know about those have been absolutely forgotten as I go to write about them 😅 It was much harder than expected.. So I definately will miss some; this is not an exclusive list nor is it in any order!
♥ Opposites attract friendship
Truth me told, myself and my bestfriend since childhood are very much opposites — While i’m more books & gaming, she’s more tv shows & athletic. So it’s a definite love to see more of our relationship portrayed!
♥ Breaking the fourth wall
Absolute LOVE!!! As of which, was done so well in Anxious People – in fact, Frederik Backman chosed to start the book by talking to us as the reader directly.
♥ Found Family
Friends or animals.. everyone can get apart of the family!
♥ Mental Health Reps
Wether they’re non-fiction ones meant to be inspiring, or more sad ones, id take them all! Bonus point if they’re about mines & that I do relate about them – but I love reading about all of them and getting “informed”.
♥ Owning/working in a Café or Restaurant
Being a barista myself, I do love to see Cafés within my stories!! Especially if it’s something that ends up being passed down to them or given in specific circumstances, a la Cornershop in Cockleberry Bay.
♥ Mixing media forms
When reading crosses other platforms aswell; Aka characters being content creators, especially bloggers, having some gaming involved.. But also books about books & readers
♥ Pop culture
Similar to the previous one, Having popular things involved within the book aswell is quite the nice easter egg – bonus point if it’s things from the 2000s that is NOT harry potter. double bonus if it’s gaming x)
If you have any recs with thoses, i’m in!
which ones are your favorites? ones I didn’t mentionned?
I love the found family trope too! Especially when the family members are so unalike that you wouldn’t think they’d end up becoming a family 🙂
Yess!! Happy missmatched family 🥰
I love found family and opposites attract friendship! I don’t often like friendships in books since I often find main character’s best friends annoying but at times some friendships are just so precious and I love the idea of found family especially when biological family can be disappointing or toxic in many books.
Yess! I agree totally, although it is quite rare that something really annoys me in books
