Second Breath ~ Danika Bloom ☆ Review

Good morning,

I had been long overdue to read this one- in fact, it had been on 3 seasonal TBRs in a row 😅 I loved the first tome so much that I bought the second… and just left it there ahaha.

Goodread’s page

4 / 5 Stars ⭐️

I feel like Dylan shine in a new light than what i’ve seen of him in « First In », the first tome in the 6-pack brothers serie. Nick is indeed told to be the most romantic of the brothers, and I do have a soft spot for the previous tome as I can’t get enough of Sophie’s french swearing in the middle of a full-english book 🤣 But this book made me feel so good ❤️❤️

Both Dylan & Kama have a wonderful connection since the very start, despite her not quite being his standard, and both having ulterior motives. I’m an absolute sucker for the « falling for them despite not wanting/can’t afford to » trope, and oh boy I was in for a treat as BOTH of them followed suit in it!!

Kama’s character share my anxious mind, and we do see her having a full flung panic attack in the middle of a « set-up date ».. as for the first book, i’m absolutely on board with the respect the male MC has for their romantic partner. Not only did he stayed & helped her get home from the panic-date, but he made sur not to make a fuss about it, even going to joke about the situation.. and omg my heart!! ❤️❤️

Bonus point for the absolute love of friendship portrayed between Lizzy & Kama; acting like sisters taking care of each other. Lizzy did take the reins when her friend got into her panic attack- knowing what worked on her and how to descalate things.

Dylan & his brothers has a lovely brotherhood relationship; all of them being there to remind him how much he fucked up.. but they were also present to shove him in the right direction and made it right again, holding him accountable.

We knew from the get-go that Kama was doing the dates for research for her thesis before absolutely falling for him. However.. only Dylan and his boss knew about his motive.. and though he did fall head over heels for Kama, he didn’t revealed that part to her, hoping to get the butter & money of the butter (aka the promotion from winning the cause, while keeping her & her reputation intact).

To me that had been a mess waiting to happen; he would need to eventually bring  her to court, and although he is a very smart man, this couldn’t be good. I imagined Kama eventually finding out and immediately throw a fit at him- hands down. I can smell 3rd-act breakups from a mile away now.. I Was slightly dissapointed in Dylan’s way of thinking a few times however.. as I would’ve acted differently and just given up my dream of getting that position, because that was inherently bad morale and he knew it.

Even if the first pages before the story started did promise me a HEA.. boy my poor heart 😭 I’ve considered throwing my phone at the wall on multiple occasions, at a bunch of mess that COULD had been avoided – throwing several 3rd act breakups at my face.. BUT the end realization & the love wins over everything at the end pleased me ❤️❤️ Their relationship & deep love they had for each other is everything.

« It makes all the sense! In fact, even in Moulin Rouge, Ewan McGregor—I mean his character, Christian—has to accept by the end of the film that love is dangerous and futile.»

« You have a bumpy road ahead… but the prize at the end of your journey will be electrifying. Be happy. This is good news. »

« I couldn’t explain it, but he made me feel complete. When I was too in my head, he helped me find my heart. When I was anxious, he calmed me with just a touch, the right word, or a wink that said, ‘I’ve got your back.’ »

« “Lesson number one about finding your joy,” she said, “is that life doesn’t have to be about choosing between what you know you love and what you might love if you gave it a chance.” »
