Should being Self-Hosted change your posting?

Should being Self-Hosted change your posting?

Good morning!

yes, we are having yet again a conversation post about Self-hosting.. Since i’ve became self-hosted, I have one question that i’d like for us to discuss today ;

Should being self-hosted change what you post?

Granted we know from my other post about Self-host here, that what was important to me was my passion rather than any other outside sources. I’ve however been kind of “scared” to do some tags and seems to be on a blogging/bookish posting spree.

It surely didn’t helped my little down in posts ideas, though most of those I do get is conversation posts nowadays. So maybe it just has to do with tags i’m seeing not really attracting me currently. Though now i’ve paid for it, my views kinda changed and i’m not so sure about doing them…

Although I’m struggling with posting shorter posts too, maybe i’m just over-thinking everything as per usual 🙈

What do you guys think?

  • If you’re self-hosted, Did you had the same reticences as me ?
  • Are tags a “worthy” kind of posts to you ?
  • What are the kind of posts you like to read the most?
  • Should the difference between being self-hosted or not matter?

  1. I’m not sure if I change my post style when I went self-hosted but I would say to just post what you want! Its’t true that blogging tag posts are not SEO material but that kind of posts are fun to write and bring more engagement.

    1. Thank you !
Yep, that’s my thoughts too – gotta have fun once in a while eh ? Hopefully once the “new” of it wear off i’ll go back to do more 😅

  2. I don’t think being self hosted should make you more or less popular. Sure, it gives your blog a more professional feel and if you are looking to make money from blogging or to do… I don’t know, more extravagant things it makes sense. But it shouldn’t limit the blogger in any other ways!!

    1. Thank you for your imput Olivia!
Hopefully that will pass me and was just because it wad new and all 😅 I do agree with you!

  3. I don’t think it changes your posting to be honest, though that depends on the person. For some people, going self-hosted is a change and inspires for new content being created after being in a funk (that’s how it was for me, at least, along with other reasons), but I don’t think it changes in the posts you’re making in my opinion. Blogging should be for yourself, and those who care will continue to read your content and support you. Like Olivia said, self-hosting makes your blog look more professional and maybe provide more opportunities, but it doesn’t limit you in other ways.

    1. Thank you so much Sophia!
Blogging to me has always been that for me, so im happy everyone is on the same page!

  4. i thinky ou just gotta post what youre happy with, at the end of hte day if youre not enjoying what youre creating move on to thenext thing 🙂

    1. That is absolutely right. Thank for the reminder Lauren! I sometimes need to hear that ahha 😅

  5. YAY congratulations on going self-hosted, this is so exciting!!! 😀
I don’t think that being self-hosted should change the way you post at all – you should keep on writing the posts you enjoy to write the most because that’s the most important 😀

    1. Thank you Marie 😘 It is indeed ! Now to find a tag I wanna do.. ahaha

  6. Hahaha you are so adorable Kristina! I love your new look! It does look so professional. My posts have certainly changed as I’ve settled into self hosting. I think because I pay for the privilege now that I focus on what I want to post and not on readers visiting me. Readers will come and go but if I want to stick around I’ve got to love what I do. ❤️

    1. Aw thank you !! ❤️
Oh that’s an interesting one. I haven’t thought of it in that way, i had stopped at the « must. Look. Professional. » but you’re absolutely right.

  7. Congratulations on going self-hosted! For me owning my domain hasn’t changed what I post at all because I’ve always blogged for myself. I write the things I am interested in writing, but I do thoughtfully plan when they are posted for the most bang for the buck so to speak.

    1. Thank you !
That’s very good for you, and rather smart. I’ve always blogged for myself first too, However I’ve always used the same planning and haven’t re-visited it xD (well, apart of when Alex filled 2 other posts in the week, leaving only one without a posting day in the week) — for now my stats don’t give me much data onto that as it’s only been a month .. so we’ll see later !
