Solitaire ~ Alice Oseman ☆ Review

Good morning!

I originally hadn’t planned to read this book now, but I was actually on a search for my next french read and having nothing that I felt like reading on my shelves; so I went to the bookstore instead. When I saw the french translation of it, L’année Solitaire, I decided to pick it up and read a few pages at random .. got grasped in it, bought it and decided that’s what I felt like reading! 😅

Just like I did with the other Alice Oseman novel i’ve read, I’ve really related with Tori. Her way of having very few friends, with in the end pushing them away; scared to open up to people. She doesn’t want anyone to bother about her, prefering being alone. She’s not a fan of books, and is also a blogger (which looks more like a tumblr to me)!

While this story was loaded with a bit heavy material (a quite important life lesson with the “Solitaire” blog, mentions of self-harm aswell as two “attempts”, and an eating disorder), it also felt light weight and a pleasent read for me at the same time. I had suspiscions onto who was behind solitaire – which turned out I was partially right.

Knowing that Nick & Charlie are the protagonists of her other work “Heartstoppers“, this read make me appreciate them and I kinda wanna read that other book too now! Not only am I interested to know how their story developped and stuff, but i’m kinda curious upon if the events of “Solitaire” would make their appearance aswell.

  1. I don’t know that the events of Solitaire will make it into Heartstopper, only because Heartstopper is set before Solitaire – it’s the story of how Charlie and Nick got together, and it’s so sweet!! Heartstopper is also set way before Radio Silence, and Aled makes an appearance too.

    1. Oooh, interesting!
yeah, depending on *how much* before — I thought maybe while their story was going it might run into what happened in Solitaire?
