The problems with reading lots of books with « heavy » topics

Good morning!

As I’ve discussed within the post “Which do you prefer; reading your current «mood», or something totally different?“, I like to match my books with how i’m currently feeling.. which can bring a bit of “problems” while doing so 😅 Especially if you’ve been feeling on the depressive side for a while and thus read a fair amount of “heavy” topics’ books in a row.

Just like listening to heatbreaking music while feeling depressed, we all know it’s not the best approach and you’d be better off listening to some more “happier” stuff.. But I’m still gonna keep doing so despice thoses little “problems” here as I do really enjoy relating to the sad MCs..

💔  Sometimes, I purposely don’t pick up the book that i’m reading just because I don’t feel like getting sad and/or crying on that day.. Although I’m gonna give it to you that I cry for everything, happy or sad.

💔  Constantly being knocked off and mourning characters or relationships.. having them remaining within you and going back to them every so often.

💔  Reading hangovers are more frequents for me, as my emotions are still all tangled up from the ending that i’ve gotten.

💔  Because the book contain the same kind of emotion you’re feeling, it’s possible that it comes “worsen” it a little bit. Although this make it switch from “something about yourself” to “something about a fictional character”.

💔  May not be the best kind of book to go read in public, or within work breaks, as my reading sessions most likely than not leaves me troubled and into my mind for a little bit.

Do you enjoy thoses kind of books?
If so, did you encountered some more little problems that i’ve forgotten?

  1. I’ve been having trouble reading lighter books too. All I read is heavy books when I actually want something light and fluffy, I can’t stick to one book. 😭😭😭

Say something 💕
