Good morning!
In case you haven’t noticed this far, I actually quite love ranting on stuff.. or even just complain 😅 So when I see THIS was tomorrow’s topic, oh boy, i’m in. So here we are, always either early or late with thoses, as I don’t typically posts on tuesdays unfortunately.
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
October 5: Bookish Pet Peeves
*Please note that thoses are not specifically in order; just in the order that I was thinking of them. And as always.. I’ve probably forgotten a bunch*
💔 past 80% break-up in romance books
I’ve rant about this quite often recently [Romance genre pet peeves] — but I need my happy endings, I’m really strict about that, and I guarantee you this make me skip to the end to see if they get together in the end. If not, that book is gonna go flying and hit the wall SO FAST! 🤣 Though thanksfully so far all of thoses I got were indeed happy ending.. so no book throwing in the middle of the night waking my parents yet.
💔 Books synopsis starting by nonesense like “For lovers of book X or Y this [..]” on goodread
Nothing more annoying to me than hover on a book, trying to fit a particular prompt or searching for something in particular and hit one of those 🤦🏽♀️ Like- thank you very much, this tells me NOTHING. I nw have to manually press on it to go read the synopsis to go back at my list..
💔 On the same vein, no synopsis on the back with only “popular people reviews”
I’m a odd one out who doesn’t actually read reviews before I read- I wanna read them after (and fellow blogger’s.. not some celebrity kthxbye). This makes me work harder to find what the book is ACTUALLY about. and I hate it.
💔 Thriller ending with “it was in X’s head all along; they’re schizophrenic!”
I can name two novels right away.. Supermarket from Bobby Hall aswell as A danger to herself & others from Alyssa B. Sheinmel. This mystery solving is shitty, usually always the same and super hurtful on the stigma of the disorder. Anything would be better than that conclusion imo.
💔 Reviews of YA novels shaming the TEEN MC as naive, gullible or making X mistake
I- this one annoys me to my core.. while you can read this at any age you want; the character, being 17 years old, WILL MAKE MISTAKES! That character can’t have the same logic as you do at 24/25. It is normal – it is not a flaw!!! and I digress.. but i’m as much of a moron as they do, and would probably fall for it the same way.
What are your bookish pet peeves, do we share some?
omg yes to all fo these – I hate third act breakup but I’ve come to accept them 🙁
and like teens are not supposed t be mature??? what’s wrong with everyone
and using mental illness as a plot twist? ugh
great post! <3
Thank you ❤️
Only time I can accept it is if it end up good 😅 if not- gtf out of here ahaha
